I'm going dark but I want a semi-perm so that if I  don't like it, it'll fade and I can bring the bleach/blonde back. If that works. I'm naturally very dark and I'm getting angry with trying to keep the brass out of my blonde and my roots. I think the dark will be a cool change but if I'm no longer comfortable with it I can reverse it and go back to a lighter color.
What semi will work? Can I get it in a dark chocolate color, I also want a dark color that has no red in it. I hate red... can anyone help?

Be careful about using any color that is dark on bleached hair--even a semi.  It doesn't fade and once you go back to dark it's just about impossible to get the light blonde again without completely frying your hair.  I would only do a few scattered lowlights in the dark chocolate color that you like.

she's been there. and done the lowlights. could i suggest getting yourself a decent quality, modestly priced wig? it would be easier that dying the whole head. and you could switch every other day if you wanted!

NoNO Say it ain't so... not you... I love your blonde hair...

O.K.  if you must do it... you have to post TONS of blonde pictures before you go dark!  Then 1/2  a ton of pictures after you go dark...lol

You should try those temporary colors that come in those spray cans.  That way you can get used to the color, or in case you don't like it you can just wash it off.  I do advise you though to do a strand test first, because some of those temporary colors aren't so temporary and sometimes don't wash off.  Also, because your hair is so light it might stain, so do a strand test to make sure it washes off completely, and if it does you can go for it.  I say this because a friend's brother once used one of these temporary colors on his light blonde hair (not dyed, it was his natural color) and it didn't wash off completely.  Of course that was a while ago and products have evolved, but still, it's better to be safe than sorry.

You were so happy recently with your blonde.  What happened?  I'd advise against going dark, if you don't want to keep it that way.  Maybe you're just bored right now?  Try to work through it if you can.  I think someone here suggested a wig, maybe that's a good idea??  That way you can be dark for awhile, and then when you're tired of it and ready to be blonde again you won't have to go through the process of trying to lift all that dark color out.

Good luck.  Don't do anything rash.

I went back to dark after spending years as a highlighted-blonde. SUCH a painful process! My natural color is very dark brown. I did the filler, and natural instincts (demi) brown color, and at first it was black, but the color is brown now. I also had to re-dye it once more to get rid of a few spots that were brassy because they didn't soak up the dye as well as the most porous portions of my hair. Very painful process. Keep in mind, though I like my hair now, dyed dark hair tends to look...dyed. I also had to do some work to get rid of dryness, but the condition is shiny and nice now. I did a big haircut too, so I could grow out my natural color better and minimize damage. I went from below my shoulders to somwhere between ear and chin-length. Now I am growing it again. ugh!

I sometimes wish I had just stayed light but it was too expensive and my hair was really getting frizzy and damaged, no matter how much I got trims and deep-conditioned. Getting the color even is hard, even with filler and I still have lighter areas hidden underneath. i guess that layer was less damaged and soaked up less dye. Luckily, those will grow out and they aren't THAT much lighter. I understand your pain. It is hard to maintain a good blonde when you are naturally so very dark, but I will say, you look great as a blonde. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Wow I didn't expect this reaction!!! I do love my blonde so, it makes me feel like me.   Oh dear, I'm totally considering the WIG!  I am bored, that and my roots bother me a lot. I'll have to go get them fixed again, but I can't return to my orginal hairdresser because of course I bought the package from the MOST EXPENSIVE place in town. And it would cost too much to fix my roots there. Wow it seems like the exact same hassle to get back to my dark as it was just to get to my light. I really do enjoy my light... eeeehhh... Maybe I should really stick to it and get a wig. Do people wear wigs nowadays? I see them in the shops now but I thought it was for people who are loosing their hair or strippers. LOL. And I am not cutting my hair off either. So I guess I'll stick to the light until I am really truly ready to  get rid of it.You guys are so super!  :)

You would be suprised how many people wear wigs. And they are even more undetectable than ever.Alot of celebs wear lacefronts. Beyonce,Ashanti, gwen stefani! they have all been spotted with them. And there are many more of which people have no idea.People are like, wow they have great hair.If people only knew.Wigs can be fun,and very versatile. You can get a cut and style to suit any mood. Long wavy and red, short brown and spiral curled.

You've worked so hard to get your blond it would be a shame to go back dark now.

That's true it would be sad to go back. I really enjoy being blonde, it darkens my skin and suits my personlity... My lowlites have faded, the darker blonde pieces I had underneath are now faded to an  orangy color. It's not bad really, the darker pieces around my face stayed. I need to do my roots. I can't go back to the salon, so I'm just going to use a highlighting kit to touch them up a little. It's so hard to do it myself since I can't get to the back of my head all to well. I have purple shampoo so it should tone down the orange I usually get with bleaching.
Here she is... I love the back.
YAY!

Since I've been bleaching my hair it's been rather dry but in the last couple of weeks, it's been very shiny and  smooth, however my roots are driving me crazy! They don't look bad  at all, but my  dark hair would get rather greasy when I had it. I washed it all the time to keep it clean, but beacuse of my blonde I don't wash it as much as I used to. I dont' know if it's the shampoo I'm using or what, but my dark roots are starting to do that. The rest of my hair will be shiny and clean and the roots will get greasy within the day, causing my hair to fall. Does using heat on your hair cause it to react and start making oils?
I don't wash my hair all the time so the roots stay oily. Is there something I can do? I heard of using baby powder, but my hair is dark there so... I don't know. Is my hair going into healthy mode or what> I enjoyed the dryness it kept hairstyles much better. If you can believe that. You guys rock!

I know where you can get quality lacefronts for $150. Plus good synthetic wigs are pretty cheap. You just have to shop around.

Wow, I can't believe you changed your mind. I'm so glad you did though because I also love your blonde -- I think I've already told you that several times but I just had to say it again. I would hate to see it go! I would love for my hair to look like that.

If I were you, I would consult a hair stylist.  Even though, I am African American and we differ ethnically I would recommend starting with highlights first.  Highlights are often done by add streaks of color throughout the hair and it is often done with a mild mixture of bleach along with a rinse.  Utilizing highlights will help you decide if you want to making a permanent commitment to dyeing your entire head that color.  I have jet black hair with pomegranate colored highlights.  Everyone says that my hair is beautiful.  My hairstylist gave me highlights with semipermanent hair color and rinse (glazing for shine) because it is less damaging and drying to the hair and plus its not that drastic.  If I were you, I would also speak to my stylist about lowlights which is highlighting done with dark color.  Some examples of people who have had lowlights are Farah Fawcett and Mary J. Blige.

I love wigs.  They are so convenient.  But always wear a wig cap before applying your wig.

How exactly would someone with very thick long hair be able to pull off a wig?  Would a wig cap be enough?

So that's why it says on the back of L'Oreal Superblonde that you can only dye over with Recital Preference shades!  I wish I'd have known that before I bleached mine to get the black out.  Now I'm stuck with black hair again.  Damn it.

Is it because the bleach makes your hair so porous?, because that's what I've found.

You have wigs that come in various sizes.  Her head would have to be measured.  I wrap and pin my hair around my head with bobby pins and then I use a wig cap over my hair before applying a wig.
