Change????
I have always been a blonde. I was born plat. blonde and it stayed that way until I hit my teens and turned more dirty blonde...and I got streaks.
I feel that blonde is my identity...however, somedays I would love to be dark. I envy people with dark hair it looks so exotic and sexy!
I also work as a school therapist in an elementary school and think it would be much easier to deal with other professionals if I wasnt a blonde, I think I get judged sometimes because of it, know what i mean.
So I guess my question is have you ever made the change? Did it make you feel different? Did people treat you different? |

I went from dark reddish blonde to medium ashy brown. That's not the
biggest change in history or anything, but I like it, and feel
different. Also, I get more compliments about my hair (which is very
long, thick, and straight). I just think that for whatever reason,
brown hair works better on me.
I think perhaps because I have such a light skin tone (and blue eyes), I need to have a "contrast" there.

I was born platinum and it stayed that way until I turned 31. Then it started growing in darker....maybe between an 9N and 8N blonde. I started highlighting and then started all over coloring. It's all I know. At my 20th class reunion people kept saying how I hadn't changed and they could always spot me from my very light (white in most summers) hair.
I don't worry about stereotypes. If people just treat me like a 'dumb blonde' I just prove them wrong.
Nah, the darkest I ever want to go is back to my natural light blonde. If I looked in the mirror and saw anything else.....it just wouldn't be me.

I have naturally light blonde hair, it used to be white up until I was
like 12. I go through so many phases when I want to dye my hair dark
brown so bad, I wish I had that exotic look like with the tan skin and
long dark hair and you can pull off the smokey eyes and stuff. I think
that looks so pretty. But I always get too afraid it'll look bad.
People never take me seriously though it seems, because of my platinum
hair (it's bleached now) You should try light brown then go gradually
darker if it looks good.

Hi Tinkerbelle... I was born a strawberry blonde. It darkened over the years, as hair seems to do. But in 2002..I pushed the limits and went with a Rich Mahogany Black (basically black with a dark purple hue...the black was intentional, the purple wasn't). I really enjoyed it. I don't know that it made me feel any different... But I liked having my hair dark.............................Until my roots grew out! It looked like Halloween!
Biggest downfall to that...is when the time comes where you can no longer keep up with it or are looking to change it again. The black had to be stripped out of my hair...which then turned bright orange, with white roots (virgin hair). Eventually it was able to be dyed and toned almost back to normal.
But just consider that before you go too dark with your hair...unless you intend to keep up with it, that is.
Good luck with!

My hair is naturally black, I have had every shade blonde, red, brown, highlite's. The biggest change I ever made was about 2 months ago, when I bleached my hair which had been colored my nat color for almost 2 years, then I put extensions in down to my butt. I felt like a diffrent person. Everyone loved it, here's a http://www.tinypic.com/view/?pic=j6lohl - pic

I did the ultimate - light blonde to blue/black. That's quite possibly the hardest colour to get out of hair!
Thankfully I'd darkened my hair gradually over a couple of years, and
realised that I suited darker hair much better. Although I am
fair skinned I can get away with it because I'm only 17, but now I want
a lighter brown again because black gets boring. I've also had it
every shade of brown, blue, red, purple...but all really dark shades of
these colours...not very vibrant.
I'd really like try loads of vibrant colours one day...but first I want
all of this black out. Despite the trouble of changing from black
to...any colour!, I'd never, ever go back to blonde. It really
didn't suit me.
Roots suck though....They are just something I have to live with.

Hi Tinkerbelle,
I am naturally Dark Brown and in 2004 I started getting Highlights. People did start to treat me differently and I got a lot of comparisons to Charlie from Busted (not sure if you know of him !)
When my hair was a really white blonde by the end of 2004 I hated it !
I went to the Hairdressers and got it dyed a Dark Brown with Caramel slices. I change my colour all the time but all my friends and family have opinions on their favourite looks that I have had !
My sister changes her hair colour all the time as well and she is naturally a dirty blonde. When she had it dyed a really rich Chocolate Brown she got so many compliments !
Could you maybe buy a wig and see if you liked your hair a different colour ?

Tinkerbelle~
I can understand your comment about feeling like the blonde hair is your identity~ I feel the same way.
Luckily I don't have the daily issues that people often run into with being judged negatively due to having blonde hair simply because I am self employed and at this point I have established myself (although I'm sure there ARE unjust judgements made about me at conferences, banking, etc~ it's a point where it no longer would bother me or affect me).
The one thing I can say for sure is that I really love having blonde hair. I recently went through a hair disaster that both changed my hair colour and took away the length of my hair. I found that to be quite traumatic and even very depressing (however shallow that might seem).
I CAN understand wanting to change your haircolour for many reasons though (although I have never voluntarily gone through with it because I think I am a blonde at heart! ~Even if my hair has to be shown that monthly by the salon! LOL)

I'm natural med brown. Several years back I went blonde.. And loved it.. But I felt I was getting to old to have blonde hair, so I started putting some red in it.. Now I'm a reddish brown..
I miss the blonde though..
Tink you have beautiful hair.. I wouldn't mess with it..

I've had everything found in nature and some that aren't. Some things get more comments/compliments than others (the unnatural stuff gets the most of all), but I don't think I felt any more depressed when my hair was black, or bubblier when it was blonde, or anything like that. *shrugs* I don't do it expecting a big attitude shift, though. I just get bored and wanna do something different. Maybe people who expect more of a shift will get one.

I know what you mean...black can be so lovely and shiny, or so dull and boring, depending on which way you look at it
