I'm 16 years old and have been getting perms since I was about 6 years old.  When I got to middle school my hair started breaking and I had to cut it right below my ears.  It used to be all the way down my back.  Earlier this year, around March or April, I cut my hair back to below my ears even though it had grown an inch.  Now I've been wearing tracks which have helped my hair to grow back down to my neck and it is reaching my shoulders.  I'm thinking about going natural with my hair to help it grow back because perms have messed up my hair.  I don't know whether to just get it pressed or to braid it.  I don't want to get micros because I've been told that they break your hair.  How should I get started on going natural with my hair?

Well- You can either do the big chop(cut off all of the permed end at one time - this is the route i went) or you can transition with braids or weave and just trim a little of the permed ends over time- now i would not even begin to be able to help you with a transition but check out http://www.longhaircareforum.com - www.longhaircareforum.com - they will be able to help you there - you can read the posts with out subscribing but in order to post there is a $5.00 yearly fee. Hope this helps and if i find out more info i will let you know.

I transitioned using a sew-in.  I kept it in for about 6 mos.  which is a bit too long, but I did it anyways.  But over the years, I've just been choping it off little by little!

And oh yeah, after my sew-in I used a human fall off and on for about 2 yrs.

Happy Growing!

Wearing a bun or getting braid extensions are both great styles to wear while transitioning to natural hair.  Good luck!

get braids until you get alot of new growth, thenstart trimming relaxed ends a little at a time, then if you want straight hair, do a press..NEVER do a press with relaxed hair
