First, a little background. My hair is too dark after many years of dyeing and messing up on one dark color. So, I applied Color fix to the top layers and this did not do too much. Anyway, my base color is a 4 with deep red undertones (kind of like Irish Settter) and I am looking for light brown highlights to apply and eventually incorporate all over.
Here is what I did.. After multiple test strands, I used 45 developer on my gray hair arond my temples and under my bangs for approx 5 minutes, then applied a Miss Clairol Moonhaze and 45 developer 1:1 mix and left on for approx 10 minutes. This worked perfectly. Gray turned a nice light brown (no red at all).
Then, I bleached a few strands for highlights with powder bleach and 45 peroxide for 1 hour and only got to a light orange color. Too scared to leave on longer. Then, I applied Redkens EQ 6N color to tone the hightlights and voila... Perfect light brown highlights that blend into the base color nicely.
Question? How can I bleach to get a yellow color (inside bananna)? I have used Wellight and Powder mix with peroxide and only get to the orange? Thanks...
Very happy now...
