I just joined today, I'm Mary in Scotland. My hair is dyed black and has been for millions of years. The roots are grey, and just above the root growth is a mid brown layer (yeeugh , awful innit!) - I want to stop dying it and let it go grey for a bit, then see what I can do next...What is the best thing to do ? I want to have it cut really short and that's it done --but the husband & family are horrified and have threatened me with locking in the shed until it grows back in. Anybody any ideas please?Replies:

| I vote for cutting it off and letting it grow out and redyeing. However, you could also try Colorfixing the hair and then redying it, but not sure what color you are wanting...brown? |

I'm not sure Rebekah....I just got as far as wanting rid of the black, which is so dense and the ends are so porous its just a mess. If I do keep on dying it, I think I'll stick to the 6-8 weeks ones and then get the ends cut once a month...it does grow fast thank god. Black is a nightmare to get rid of isnt it? I cant get this product you mentioned here, I've never heard of it.. |

Tell them it's your hair and you'll do what you want with it!!! Seriously, I stopped dying my hair 9 months ago. My daughter wanted me to stop dying it, but my husband didn't. I had the casting vote. It went through an awful multi-coloured stage and is only just beginning to look acceptable. I resisted the obvious "cut it short" remedy because I had been growing it into a longer style for a couple of years and definitely don't suit short layers! My natural grey and brown suits my skin colour. Because I look younger than I am, people think the grey hair is dyed streaks. The condition of the new growth is lovely and silky. I'd never go back to dying it. |

 That's good - thanks for that...its the kind of thing where you need encouragement or you just KNOW that you will go out and slap another dye on it ...lol

| I know what you mean. I had 2 boxes of hair dye in a drawer. I gave them to a charity shop before Christmas to remove temptation. I asked my hairdresser about stripping the dye out of my hair and she didn't seem keen. I don't think Colorfix is easily available in the UK, though you could probably buy it online. Keep us posted on your progress. I really love it when I "meet" someone who is growing out the colours. |

I managed to get hold of Goldwell Color Remover for about £10 off
Ebay...but all the other color removers are only available abroad, in
salons or at Sally's. There is no Sally's close to me. |
