I have a short, shaggy cut right now.  The sides are just beneath my ears and the back is longer.  The shortest layers lay at the tops of my ears.

Anyways, I've been using hot rollers to produce a slightly wavy, "messy" look...but that takes more time than I can spare.  As a result, I've been wearing this limp, plain look.  I'm a professional musician/composer and I want something kind of funky and cool, but not over-the-top.

I definately don't want a spiral perm, but if there is a wave treatment or something that would give me a similar look to the hot rollers, I'd really like to know.

Definitely go curly! It'll look cute with red hair.

Yes, you can definitely get this look. Its called a bodywave. Its used to give volume and sometimes a very loose curl. You can get the loose curl if your hair is longer.Just have them use bigger rollers like you would when you set your hair with hot rollers.
