I am so glad I found this forum.  I really need some help from experts.  My 10 year old daughter wanted to have blond chunks in her hair about 1 year or so ago, so I put some in.  They were starting to grow out after 5- 6 touch-ups and she decided she wanted her natural color back (dark brown).  I tried dying with a perm hair dye and it wouldn't take.  So I used a protein filler.  1st time didn't work, the 2nd time did.  But now her hair is CRAZY frizzy.  It has NEVER looked this awful before.   She is in tears ALL the time.  We tried to grow it out, it looked terrible.  She got it cut now she says she looks like a mushroom.  I don't know what to do.  The lady at the beauty supply store I go to says that is it normal for girls' hair to change around this age.  And offered no other advice.  But this is beyond drastic.  I was thinking it was the protein filler, but reading some of the other posts, was it all that hair dye?  Any info, advice would be SO greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

It's very well possible that her hair changed. Mine did when I was 9. Before that it had body but no curl and no frizz at all. After I turned 9 it got all frizzy and a mess and pretty curly. I just learned to live with curly hair. Not everyone's hair stays the same throughout their whole life. I'd recommend getting a cut that works with the frizz and anti-frizz products.

Yep, mine too, when I was about 11.  I had long blonde shiny ringlets up to then, but puberty made my hair greasy, frizzy and thick.  It has actually stopped now though from dying it (I'm 17 now)!  Now it's glossy and straight because it is weighted down with hair treatments and is taken care of a lot better, despite the chemical damage.

However, it is the first time your daughter has had permanent dye on her hair, and it may also be because it is a shock to her hair...but there are plenty of products to condition the hair and weigh it down. Intensive conditioning masks are great for putting that moisture back into the hair.  Personally when I first dyed mine at the age of 13 it looked incredibly shiny and glossy...but everyone's hair's different.

Before you start panicing and chopping more hair off or putting dyes on etc...just treat the hair with care, use a shampoo for frizzy hair, maybe try frizz-ease or something...it might just be because you're daughter's changing.

Thank you for the info.  What products do you recommend to help keep the moisture in?  Do you leave it in overnight, all day or just in the shower?  She is really self-concious so I would hope to find something that would not make her hair so greasy, just something to help keep it down but healthy looking.  She is going in for a layered cut today, I hope that helps.  When we first bleached it, she looked gorgeous, her hair was healthy, shiny and straight.  So I know that somewhere along the way - which I'm pretty sure is when we used the protein filler and tried to dye the bleached chunks is when it all changed. :(  Thanks again for your help.

A good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner might work. Also trying a new washing routine might help. I don't know a lot about all the different ways to wash and condition but I know others around here do. I just shampoo my hair every 2 days and condition every day.

My hair got very dry after bleaching/lowlights/color correction. Try Loreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture. I use it as a daily conditioner and then once a week, I leave it on for 10 min as a deep conditioner. It's the BEST stuff I've ever used! I buy mine at Sally Beauty Supply.

I'm thinking of doing something drastic to my hair and if I do I am definitely going to get Loreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture. I've read some great things about it.

I've just bought some Fudge and Osmo Essence products that you can get in salons or online and they work wonders.  The Fudg Dynamite protein treatment has made my hair so strong and shiny, and the Osmo Essence Deep Repair Mask is great for damaged hair.  Both help replenish the moisture and elasticity in the hair.

There is a huuuuuge range of products you can buy.  Eve simple shampoos and conditioners work well, you don't have to spend loads.
