Hi!

I am new to the forum, but have been reading through the posts on this board, for what seems like hours!

My twin sister and I wear extensions. We we born with lovely DARK brown hair, but we love being platinum blonde. My sister has a couple rows of wefts and fusion extensions (22") installed by a 20 yr extension veteran. Her extension hair is absolutely gorgeous and the right color (seems lighter than any 613 I've seen), but the extensionist won't tell her where the hair comes from. I guess if you have something REALLY, REALLY good you tend to guard it, right?! He says it is European hair, I think specifically Italian. Is there a secret supplier of the best hair in the world that I should know about? I think I have quite possibly every extension supply website bookmarked by now.

I have been wearing what I have come to realize are very cheap extensions. I started with Raquel Welch clip-in extensions (wore them for about 6 months straight, then had to throw them out-matted and tangled ALL THE TIME), then went to Sepia clip-in extensions purchased from http://www.hairandextensions.com - www.hairandextensions.com  (wore them for sometime only 2 days before they tangled and matted up). I always order 613, but I'm not sure if there is a distributor of good quality human hair in a lighter shade. My hair is maybe 1 shade lighter than 613. I am hoping to take the plunge and go for a couple rows of wefts and fusion strands in front.

A few questions for you pretty blondes (or those in the know about the light colored extensions):

1. What is the lightest human hair color readily available for purchase on the internet? I am not really concerned with price...I really just want A++++++ grade light hair.

2. For weft installation, do you think hand-tied or machine wefts are noticably different in their relative bulkiness (I have always had machine-weft extensions)? I notice that most hand-tied wefts are cut into 10" weft sections....this seems really long to me...I think I would only need like 8" max. Does folding over the weft if it is too long make more sense than cutting it?

3. Does purchaing pre-tips save time or money vs. cutting hair off a weft? Don't you have to cut off all the old glue anyway off pre-tips? Are there re-usable pre-tips? Is Keratin the preferred bonding glue for fusion extensions?

4. I have seen the polls listed on this forum talking about the best human hair brands. I can't seem to locate any LUSH hair in pale blonde or 613 equivalent. Bohyme seems to be one of the brands that forum members have found to be of good quality, and they are one of the only brands I can find in 613. Am I missing any other good brands?

I have been wearing my clip-ins for 2 years....hoping to take the plunge this week with a more permanent application.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Hi and welcome!

Here is my 2 cents worth:

1) I have never seen any hair extension hair lighter than 613.  613 is pretty light, so I'm guessing that you bleach your hair out to almost white.  You may just have to tone your hair so the 613 will match it-sorry!

2) hand tied wefts are way thinner than machine wefted.  That said, because they are so thin, I usually double them up when I do a sew in weave, and that kind of defeats the purpose.  I do like hand tied better though, because they do not shed at all, and machine wefted hair does shed some.

Yes most hand tieds come in 10" width, and you never want to cut a hand tied weft, because it will unravel on you.  If I need to I fold them over, it's not a problem.

3) I'm the wrong person to answer a fusion question, because I really dislike that method. Usually pre-tipped hair is more expensive, but pre-tipping yourself is messy and takes too much time.  In my opinion, it's not worth it for me to pre-tip.

I think keratin is just a fancy name for glue, they basically are all similar in chemical composition.  I know some people do have better luck with some brands over others though.

Look into shrinkies or protubes.  I think those are much easier to do than fusion, especially on yourself.

4) Check out http://www.extensions-plus.com - www.extensions-plus.com   They have some very nice hair, and carry a good inventory of Italian and European hair too.  But in your color and the length you are looking for, expect European hair to cost you about $180-200 per ounce.

Good luck!

Oh crap!!!

I saw platinum (lighter then 613) remy human hair the other day, some link from deep in google search, but I cant for the life of me remember where.

The color your looking for is either a 101 or 102, if that helps at all.

# 614 is a tad lighter and less yellow...I've read through posts here Boyhme can vary from batch to batch. amm did have platnum in her Lush line...though I'm not sure if there is any left. The Elite line on her page is the same as EP. It's definately worht checking out!

As far as fusion, I like this method and have yet to have problems with it. Pertipped hair is more expensive...however I find pretipping to be a horrible, messy, time consuming chore. Again, check out http://www.shinkies.net - www.shinkies.net her prices on the Elite EZ fusion tips are fair and the hair is very good quality. I've only used the EZ plugs...(so I'm curious to hear any feedback)

Hope that helped!

1001 is the lightest color I have ever seen. It is like snow white, and very hard to get.

I used to do extensions for a lady that had very bleached blonde nearly white hair. I used the lightest #613 I could find, and just used clairol shimmer lights (purple pigment) shampoo on the extension hair. It took it from a golden tone to nearly white. I always sent her home with a bottle of the shimmer lights shampoo and her hair always looked quite platinum.

Bohyme's #613 is quite light. I dont think the Lush #613 is as light.

Thank you so much for all the help.

I think Bohyme is the way to go...is there one particular vendor you have found to have consistently lighter 613? Is the UK 613 the same texture as US? I have very thin hair, so is one more suited for my hair type? I know I'd be going with the silky straight texture.

Does Bohyme make pre-tipped extensions?

I'll definitely get the shimmer lights...sounds like I'll have to do that with whatever 613 I purchase.

Thank you!!!

The shimmer lights is definitely worth a try. It worked very well for the lady I used it on. It will definitely tone down the yellow-ness. The only thing Id be concerned about is the shrinkies turning purple (if you are using shrinkies) I remember a long time back there was a post with someone using the shimmmer lights and the shrinkies turned purple. Im not sure if all shrinkies are the same, but I think they were the shrinkies from Doc Locks.....Amms shrinkies werent around back then!

Try searching for #60. Most extension companies that carry 613 also carry 60 that is a "true" platinum. I on the other hand am a platinum who wants my hair more like the 613 golden blonde and having a hard time matching it. If anyone has a depositing color formula that will get me closer to this I'd love to hear it.

Thank you.

hiya I am new to this forum but need some help. I am blonde and am after some extensions. I keep being told shade 613 is my colour but my hair is lighter than that shade due to previous bleaching. My own hair has slight pale blonde tones and whiter tones to. What would be the best colour extensions for me to get. I am due to buy them in 2 weeks and really need to get them right. Many thanks for your help. paula

YESSS there is an extension in 808 and 909 hair that is lighter than 613... they have about 5 shades of blond I am personally lighter than a 613 and when ordering from 808 i get color 22. Its all blond its 613 but toned different example, people bleach there hair generally goal for 613 which is great but for those of us who tone with a ash and violet or a neutral end up with what i like to call a pearl platinum blond.

Now check this out http://visionhairextensions.com/clip-inhairextensions.aspx has 808, 909 however those two dont come in wefts so if your looking for clip ins they have those to and in a color 60 which is lighter than 613 imo. I have not tried the other brands they offer so for the colors they have i have no comment. With the ones i have tried those colors match perfect.

euro so.cap has color 1001 which is a light platinum with yellow undertones. But they also have 1002 which is a silver blonde. It's a white ash blonde that will give you the ultimate platinum look. Just depends on the look you're going for.

There is certainly no absolute standard of beauty. That is precisely what makes the pursuit so interesting....
