while reading various entries on here, i noticed some ppl use oil like rosemary, coconut, shea, etc. and others simply use hair cremes like NTM or Pantene. so which one does the trick? if u use oils on your scalp doesn that clog your pores and prevent hair growth? some ppl say dont put anything on your scalp for these reasons,so i guess a moisturizer on your hair is the best bet. but what do you use? one or both or something else? i just want something that is light and makes my hair feel soft and manageable. comment please im tryin 2 start getting products for this spring to start a good regimen

Natural oils such as rosemary (diluted in sweet almond oil), coconut and shea do not clog your pores- but then again i do daily co-washes and oil my scalp/ends nitely. I used to use parnevue leave-in when i first started on my journey and it worked great but over time- it no longer produced the same results. Rosemary oil, coconut, sweet almond oil, evening primrose oil, apricot kernel oil, castor oil/jamaica black castor oil, palm oil and grapeseed oil have all helped me  have a growth spurt as well as using a spritz daily that contains water/glycerin/liquid aloe vera/eo(essential oil). I also add liquid aloe vera and glycerin to my conditioner that i use for my daily cowashes.

Hope this helps and BTW- i am 100% natural.(i also have dry hair and hard water and  i am still enjoying a growth spurt)

I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It does wonders to soften hair and makes a great leave in

I prefer essential oils in addition to rich cremes that have natural ingredients.  However I do use shampoo and conditioners that have some artificial ingredients.

Favorite daily moisturizers are Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter and Khoret Amen Hair Oil.  I also really like The Jane Carter Solution Nourish & Shine. These can make my hair look greasy after a few days byt hat is to be expected when layering any products for a few days in a  row. I think that essential oils are actually beneficial for the skin (scalp) although I don't apply directly.  I apply oils near roots (when I have new growth) and to ends & hair shaft.  Massaging the scalp afterwards distributes the oils to my scalp.

do you apply everyday or only at night time? and does it have to be applied to your scalp? i dont like greaing my scalp and i wanted to use the rosemary for my actual hair. whats your regimen for using hair oils and how long does it take for you to see the difference?

What I have learned from these hair forums is that your hair needs a balance of oil moisturizers and water based moisturizes for your hair to be healthy so I would recomend using both. If you don't want to use an oil moisturizer on your scalp then applying a creamy leave in should still do the trick and help soften your new growth.

You can't use rosemary essential oil alone on your hair it is very concentrated and can irritate the skin, you'll want to dillute it with a natural oil such as coconut, olive, or jojoba. Once you dillute it you can use it everyday on your hair. Me personally I moisturize with a leave-in every day and put the oils on my ends and edges only. I will use the oil on my whole head of hair once during the week only if I feel my hair needs it this keeps my hair from feeling weighed down. You should see a difference after the first application...the hair will shinier, softer, and healthier looking.

I prefer shea butter for my scalp and natural roots and I use hair cremes on my relaxed ends.

ITA.  It's best to use a water based moisturizer first and then seal it in with an oil.

well thanks for the tip,but honestly all of this just sounds like to much!. i have been wearing braids and a weave for the past 3 years now and everytime i take out my hair,it looks better and better. i dont do anything to my hair while it is in a weave,no nada! some pple still try to oil their hair or moisturize their scalp while wearing a weave, but personally i think it is a waste of time and products. before when i had my hair out it was really messed up and i did all kinds of things to it. i guess just leaving your hair alone and sticking to one type of moisturizer is best so your hair can get use to the products. i dont think becoming a "hair chemist" is worth the time and money. it would be so much easier if i just wash regularly, moisturize with a creme every 2 days and thats it. mixing this and that is just to much of a hassle for this busy college student! after all, i want something simple and easy, thats the whole reason i started wearing a weave so that i dont have to deal with "harvesting" my hair everyday.but thanks anyway!

I KNOW SOMEBODY FEELS ME ON THIS ONE!
