I am obsessed with trying to get my hair shiny! I used  a  mist shine glosser by AG silver and that worked  alright. Is there any other products that are good? or secret remedies?

I love Redken Vinyl Glam Shine Spray...it has worked the best for me out of any shine spray...and it doesnt look that shiney in the siggy pic...but in general it really is...

People always comment on how my hair shines :)

Conditioners! I condition everyday...and shampoo every other day. I do not dye or abuse my hair with other harmful things. My hair is pretty healthy shiny...

Ya I no longer dye my hair either. My hair is naturally dark dark brown, like an off black you could say. And I used to bleach it. I used to have platinum blonde hair. But then my hair started  to massively break off, so I went back to my natural hair colour and its soooo much more healthier and shinnier. So i'll just leave it alone!

I agree.. definitely avoiding chemicals and heat, and definitely using a lot of conditioner.

If http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=30010&PN=1 - silicone condtioners don't give you damage, then they're also a source of shine.

I've had luck with Giovanni Direct Leave-in, Suave Professionals BioBasics, and apple cider vinegar rinses. ACV rinses help by removing mineral deposits and residue that can make hair dull.

Is there a big difference between the hair shampoos & conditioners you would buy such as Herbel Essence, Pantene pro v and Fructis versus redkin, joico and the higher end salon products? I was told  by a hair stylist that products such as Herbel Essence contain wax? which actually dries out your hair. I dunno, that's just what she said. Do regular 'grocery store' shampoo's and conditioner's do more harm than good?

Most drugstore products like Pantene, Herbal Essence, etc. contain silicones, and the link in my previous post will take you to the Silicone FAQ page. Silicones are not for all hair types. Damaged hair, fine hair, and curly hair generally don't do well with silicones. And as a general rule, straight coarse hair tends to need the slickness that silicone conditioners provide.

There are some gems among drugstore products. The key is to read the ingredients and find a "gentle" shampoo. Here's the range of gentle-to-harsh:

Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Ammonium Laureth Sulfate
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate

If you find a drugstore shampoo that lists the first ingredient, but none of the others, then it will work very similarly to a high-end product. Suave Professionals Color Care has a shampoo that fits this criteria.

Ok, Anais, how do you do the ACV rinse? How much vinegar? Do you do it in the shower or over a basin? Mix with water? Do it after shampoo and conditioner? Anything else (details please)?

Is Ammonium Laureth Sulfate really more gentle than Sodium Lauryl Sulfate? I never knew that. Anytime I see "Ammonium" I just put it at the bottom of the list.

I believe it's the "Laureth" that makes it gentler, but I haven't used shampoo in a long time so I don't know the difference in results.

for ACV, I put between 1/8 and 1/4 cup into a typical 20 oz. soda bottle. Then I fill the rest with lukewarm or cool water. The mixture is poured onto my scalp and runs down the length. ACV is usually done after the "wash" step (in your case, after shampoo), but before the final conditioner.

Hope this helps!
