k, to start off i have dark brown hair which is basically black, i would ultimatley like to acheive a light brown not honey or orangey, i want to completley aviod any orange. I want more of a light ash brown which has hints of grey undertones not orange, its really hard for me to explain so ill leave you guys with a few pictures that are the colour i want. I have never coloured my hair in the past and i do not intend to go to a proffessional becuase i dont want to pay a high price for a dissapointing job, i also am avoiding highlights i want an extremely natural effect.

http://www.hapas.com/people/Devon.Aoki-01.jpg - http://www.hapas.com/people/Devon.Aoki-01.jpg  - this is the closest picture to the colour i want to achieve, maybe a tad bit darker since i am tanned, this is dead on though, lol as u can tell im very picky:) with my colours!

somewhere along these lines- i want to avoid any orangey colours and i am not too keen on  highlights, im looking for more of a solid natural colour.

-all replies and advice are truly appreciated-thank you for taking the time to view my post!!:):)

i also want to put a picture up of myself to show u guys what exactly i look like, but i dont know how though- not so good with computers!

-take care

Go to a salon, I'm sure it wouldn't cost very much to have yoru dark hair lifted a little to a light brown. You can buy OTC dye that is suppose to lift dark hair to a ligther brown. I've never used them, they came out just after *damn them* I started bleaching my hair to blonde. LOL.
Hope things work out for ya.

The img code works, but they have to be hosted on the internet. It won't work from your hard drive.

Hey you can post from your hard drive BTW.  Just use the top tree image icon with the blue arrow on it.  That uploads from your computer.

But make sure the sixe of the file is no bigger than 30 KB.

I like the color you have decided on, but the best way to know for sure is to try on a wig in a similar color.

IMHO, i think a light ash brown would wash you out.   Your hair is similar to mine in original color, which is dark dark brown almost black.  If you use a drugstore brand dye (which I do and love), be careful that the color you choose says something like "golden" because a lot of drugstore hair dyes have red undertones. When I used L'Oreal preference #6, light brown, it made my hair light auburn (which is what i wanted = to bring out the red).  I don't think red would suit your complexion.

I think you'd look great with some caramel highights around your face.  Which there are some great highlight kits at the drugstore.  If you wanted to lighten your hair altogether, then maybe try a "golden light brown", which is warm to compliment your complexion, rather than "ashy" which may wash you out.  And don't forget to do a strand test!

Goodluck!!!!

thank you Tinkerbelle!:), but i am sooo bored with my hair colour its driving me insane ahh, i might try streaks or even go for a darker brown than in the picture i initially wanted since an ash would wash me out. Ill post pics of the results if i end up doing anything to it lol

I think when you get orange tones is when a red haircolor is fading, or some blondes have that problem, or when caramel highlights are fading.  I don't think you need to worry about orange, because you'll be trying out a light golden brown color, and since your base/original color is so dark, you may only be able to lift your haircolor one or 2 shades lighter, without using bleach.

I know what you mean about being bored with haircolor.  That's why I love this board, we all get that way!  If you decide to only color a few faceframing highlights, that would make a big difference (also) instead of doing a full head application.

Let us know what you decide!

drug store dyes dont do much for dark hair i guess, but isnt using bleach only to go blonde or really light? this is all sooo confusing!!

i would love to have all my hair one nice natural light brownish colour without any orangey undertones, but it seems impossible drug store brands most lilkey wont make my hair much lighter. hmm i wonder how to go about achiveing this colour...the hair colouring process is more complicated than i expected. Oh well

any one have anymore suggestions, i guess dying parts of my hair wouldnt be so bad!
