I know lots of people on here have lush hair, so I was wondering if anyone
had a similar issue....

So I love curling my hair when I am going out. I use some hot rollers,
when I take them out, they look perfect and silky and amazing. I walk
outside for 5 minutes and BAM! Rat nest.

I think it may just be part of living in Chicago in the middle of January,
but it's odd how it gets dried out the second I leave my house.

Is there anything I can do to keep the curls and keep them from getting
dried out? Anyone have similar problems? Is this just the weather and
geography problem and I am doomed for now?

I live in Texas and have Lush extensions in and style with spiral curl on a curling iron, this has always happend to me as well.  I think that it has to do a lot with the dry winter air and wind.  Also, the Lush hair is a little bit coarser, so it holds the curl great, but I think that also makes it a bit less forgiving when it gets messed up by wind.  I would say just keep up the conditioning and cover them up from the weather whenever possible.

Thanks, yeah, I guess it's a catch 22...extensions don't look natural in my
hair if they are really silky and smooth, so the lush being coarser is a
better match, but yeah, less forgiving.

I just bought some redkin UV rescue, a hair dresser told me it would help
with the elements...Lets hope. Thanks!

I have never had an issue with the hair and I wore for the full install. Two salons here that carry this line have been installing since October without a hitch. You can see the condition of the ends here even after 2 months wear is superb.

I do have a water conditioner and I use non-sulfate products. With only one or two notable exceptions, every hair I wear, even the dreaded bss and synthetic, always holds up for me when it fails for others. Wonder why that could be?

Amm, can you recommend a good shower water filter under, lets say $70 or so?

I have not had any problems either with the lush and neither have any of my clients. Prob. cause they follow my instructions and use the  Professional products i send them home with. Pureology is a low or non sulfate shampoo and cond. it works great.

something you  can try for your curls to stay

before you curl a section, lightly mist with some hair spray, this will make the curl hold better, not a ton of spray, a light misting. then, once you are done curling, mist again and fluff out.

Amm,

Wow, your hair looks very sexy.  Do you have the name or website so that I can check out Lush hair.  I really like it.

sarytyr - I'm sorry but I don't know anything about shower filters. When I bought my house there was a whole house system built in. It's a Kenmore and it filters everything. It's been a dream not to deal with soap sc/um and hard water deposits as well as getting the benefit to hair and skin.

I had extensions in that were wearing well for months. I went on vacation and the water was so hard in the airport hotel that my hair became a giant hair ball the morning before our flight. I got down to Mexico with my hair completely knotted up and right away washed with jugs of distilled water and used plenty of conditioner and finally got it combed out.

Here's the hair when I got back from vacation. I wore it for several installs for a total of almost 9 months. I have it all saved in tissue and it's perfect for even more wear. :) Water can make all the difference in the world.

When I had my home built 6 years ago I got calls for months from companies selling water softeners and conditioners so I know the water is quite hard. I bought a filter for my shower head last night at Home Depot for $20 that got good reviews online.  It will filter chlorine and such at least - couldn't hurt and is supposed to be better for the skin as well.

My Lush hair has not been dry at all this install since I keep to using Purology shampoo, conditioner and detangler.  I think the tangling I have now is normal tangling for longer hair.  I am just not used to it since I have never had hair longer than shoulder length.

Amm that hair is beautiful!  So healthy after 2 months.  It's very shiney too.
