Hi Ladies. I have a serious problem and need help quick. I had my hair texturized with what my hairdresser says was an Affirm texturizer. It was okay, but after she finished my hair had broken off on the top of my head. Now I am wary of going back to anything with chemicals in it. I thought that a texturizer would be better than a relaxer because I thought it would be milder. Now I have this broken uneven hair on top of my head and I don't know what I'm gonna do when my new growth comes in and gets too unmanagable. Does anyone know of a super mild texturizer that's better than this Affirm stuff for people with thin, damaged hair like mine? or should I just stay away from chemicals altogether? I really don't want to go full-on natural. My hair is too rough to handle in that state. Can someone tell me how to recover from this mess and what are the best products to use for my situation?
Thanks

IMO I wouldnt get any more chemicals put in due to the fact that it was cause more and severe damage as well as breakage. Because relaxers, perms, and texturizers are chemicals I dont think that any of them are safer than the other or milder, but I could be wrong.. I suggest doing protein treatments, deep conditioning treatments and getting regular trims to get your hair back to being healthy and even. Also keep your hair and scalp moisturied as well. Some of products to use are (well the ones that I use) : ORS product line, ION Effective Care Treatment Intensive Therapy Protein Rebuilder, Soft & Beautifull Botanicals Herbal Therapy Creme, Cantu Shea butter leave-in, Silk Elements Mega Condition Treatment, QP Elasta Mango Butter, Smooth 'n Shine Repair Extreme, any natural oils such as t-tree, shea butter, almond oil, etc. HTH

Thanks for the advice Carameldiva and ThaBaddestBaby. Carameldiva, what do you mean by
'try-co-washes-imstead-of-shampoo'? What are co-washes? My type is 4a/4b. Products that I am currently using are Jason's Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner, Queen Helene Hot Oil Treatment for pre-poo conditioner, Surge 14 (as a detangler after shampooing and daily with WGO to help my hair grow back), ORS carrot oil to moisturize my scalp. I will try to find some of the products you suggested TheBaDdestBaby. I was wondering since I have decided not to deal with chemicals for a while, how can I deal with my new growth? Has anyone ever tried any of these:

aww girl, when i read ur post i felt bad,, i think it
was the teary smiley lol and the fact that I had
breakage from the top of my head and had these
little one or 2 inch hairs sticking out the top and front
and a few strings of good length left so basically a
mullet and this was due to major over processing
with a relaxer and a dumb ass hairdresser,, u have
to keep your hair strong now, use something like
Nexxus Emergencee,or K-pak,, I havent used
Aphogee but some ppl say its good,,I reccomend
Emergencee though since I have used it and it does
stop breakage but you also need a good deep con
for after the protein ,, Neutrogena Triple Moisture is
good,, I cant really reccomend anything for the out of
hand new growth except keeping it well moisturized,,
im growing out a perm and i keep my hair flat ironed
so i have no prob but u shouldnt use heat now, since
ur having real breakage,, just try to leave ur hair
alone as much as u can now as far as styling is
concerned and those little hair will grow in in no
time....
------------- Hair type: 3b some c?, fine strands, last relaxer sept 05, never again!!! current :ap length on sides,,nearly bsl in back, damn those old frazzled ends! I am hair OBSESSED

co washes are when you use conditioner to wash your hair instead of shampoo. Also Aphogee/Emergencee (heavy) and Keraphix/CPR (light) are good protein treatments to use. Make sure you dc (deep condition) well after you use protein.

Don't waste your money on that Curly Pudding stuff. There are other produts that will work just as good or better for a fraction of the price because that stuff is expensive!
ITA w/everyone else....don't use chemicals or heat until you get your hair back on track. Also, a texturizer is the same thing as a relaxer, just not left on as long so it isn't any less damaging than a relaxer is.
