Im just curious to see if anyone has ever seen a similar case to mine, I had straight hair up until 2001 I was 14..Its didnt just happen over night though..It went through stages like getting more wavy/dryer and  more curly/dryer as it grew longer...It took about 1yr from soft/straight/comable to wavy/curly dry, uncomable,no form, doesnt take shape mess...My mom/family accuse me of using hair products that damaged it..even asked me something about if some1 poured beer or hot beer in my hair? My mom also thinks it was the chlorine from a pool where we use to live...because I would jump in and then get out and go do something else and sometimes forget about washing hair until the next day..now I try everything to get restore or get back my hair like cut it all off to a #1 all around..grow it long..still nothing but my mom used to say it feels a little different when I used to cut  it short everytime...well I just dont understand how it happened and I want to get it back to normal or atleast better condition..Btw my brother has straight hair, mother has straight hair, and dad was  wavy...Help me out ..I tried myself for a couple years and still no justice..

The onset of puberty can and/or will change your hair.  I went from being a straight, white blond tow-head to having wavey, thicker dark blond hair.

Yes, hormones can change your hair and so can the nutrients in your diet.  Make sure you drink enough water and avoid excessive alcohol, caffeine and salt so that your cells are well-hydrated; this will ensure that your hair is healthy (regardless of whether it is curly or straight, thick or thin, blonde, ginger, black, whatever...)

You could also look into styling products that will help you to control your curls and also moisturising ones to prevent the dryness.  Good luck!

It's definitely common. My hair was silky and straight when I was in elementary school. But after I started junior high, my hair went crazy... It was poofy, and became wavy/curly. But I've learned to take better care of it from this board, and now I've learned to like my hair better.

Same here as a kid I had slightly wavy hair and after I hit puberity it had a mind of it's own. It went corkscrew curly and poofy... I looked like a poddle with giant knots all over its head. It wasnt until the last 2-3 years where I finally regained control of it (thanks to this bord). It was the way I was treating it. Now it's much better and I actually like it for once :)

Same here -- hair changed. Mine was poker straight and fine; now it's super wavy and fine -- sometimes, if I get all sweaty from exercise or a muggy day, my hair almost gets curly -- I'll joke and say to people I know, "like my perm?" and they really think I got one. Ha!

I'm sure this isn't reversible. Condition your hair well -- curly/wavy hair is naturally more dry than straight hair.

P.S. You cannot permanently alter your hair from beer or chlorine or anything else. You'd have to permanently change your genes for your hair to change. Think about it, the hair is growing from the INSIDE OUT.

It's genetics and hormones that cause this change. I too had stick straight hair until I hit puberty. Then my hair became extremely wavy/curlyish. My mom's hair did the same when she was younger, so I know that genetics played a part in my hair's change. At first I hated my wavy hair which was ironic since I grew up admiring those with any natural wave or curl to there hair. I straightened it every day. It took forever to deal with. Finally, I had it layered and I learned to use a diffuser. I love it now.

LOL, only if it were possible to reverse time.

Taino, yes, it's very common and I think it happens to everyone although to a lesser or greater extent to each of us.  Often teenage hair goes a bit crazy (like teenage skin), but it will calm down as you get a little older and settle into your body.  Also, as someone else has said above, you will get used to styling your hair and find products that work well with it.  Good luck...I am sure you look great.
