I've had my hair Japanese straightened for about three years (with continual treatments obviously) and it has been wonderful. The only thing is - I am ready to go back to my "old" and "real" hair. Do I have to wait FOREVER for it to grow out? If I wash with cleansing, normal shampoo will it eventually go back to normal? Is there a process to reverse it? Again it's not that I don't like it...but I really want to go back to using normal shampoos and spending less money on my hair. Thanks!

I guess part of the problem is that I am scared to call my stylist and tell her I want to grow it out...she'll probably say it's a mistake....but I really am ready.

Have you had your hair relaxed or was it thermally reconditioned or chemically straightened? This would make a difference in what your options are. Relaxed hair will lose its "punch" after awhile. Thermally conditioned will generally mean you have to "grow it out" from your roots.

I had my hair done for about a year and a half. Now its been about 8 months since my last one. I have curls but not like I used to. SO I use my flat iron on it and try to protect it as much as possible.

No, it has been thermally reconditioned. What if I use regular shampoos like clarifying ones that "strip" the hair?
