I'd be interested hearing what experiences people have had with maintenance appointments. What do you generally find needs doing/correcting? The reason I ask is that I've spoken to a few extensionists who seem to have entirely different views on this. One said she removed and replaced the top two rows of bonds (requesting a further appointment to do the rest!) Many thanks. www.justbonds.co.uk

Well I can only comment on shrinkies and magic bonds really chick, all my fusion clients have swopped over now but what I used to do with fusion is the same as shrinkies really, when they've got say 10-15 strands that have come out I ask them to give me a tinkle and I'll replace them for free, you'll find some people panic when its the first time they've had extensions and lose a couple, its quite funny really, cos as if 2 are gonna make a difference lol, I think they think cos 2 have come out, that loads are going to. The main thing is not charging for maintenance, most of the salons where I live charge for this and clients look to pay around £80/$140 a month. Because I don't charge for maintenance I get a lot more business because of this. At the end of the day when you are quoted for extensions you are told they will last 3 months so why should a client then have to pay something every month, fair enough if you look at the bonds and they have all started to crumble because the client has used something they have not on their hair, i.e. forgot and put conditioner on the bonds then you would have to come to some agreement with them if they all needed replacing. Someone called me who lost all of her R****** extensions within 10 weeks and was made to pay £200 to replace. Shockin! |

Ok, now that I am done laughing I feel that I can write. I use the word "tinkle" when my daughter has to go the the bathroom. I am assuming you are refering to a client calling you on the phone? Isn't is funny how meaning change between different countries Sorry, this has nothing to do with the topic. Opps, I better go tinkle I have been laughing so hard. |

Or "nutted", like "I nutted them". Apparently in the UK that means you
head-butted someone. In the US, the MOST polite meaning of that is to
kick someone in the crotch...and there's another, FAR more obscene
meaning as well. Anyway...I totally agree with you, Amanda! I charge for tightening appointments, but those are regularly scheduled. If a customer comes in and says, "Hey I'm having a problem"...no matter what, I fix it for free. 'Cause it's just good business practice. And what with forums like this one, if you're a stylist and you do one customer wrong, everyone will hear about it. (Bless all you ladies- you keep this profession in line.) Anyway, to answer the original question... I mostly do microring weaves, so sometimes I have to re-sew wefts because the thread broke (it happened a lot more before I started giving all my customers loop brushes), or tighten a few rings on the ends of wefts where there's the most tension on them. -Rae |

| I've had this one client that's coming to see me tomorrow to have extensions done with me, she had hers done 6 weeks ago and has hardly any hair in her head, she came and showed it to me, I was shocked, I've never seen such bad extensions they were gross, all the glue bonds had gone soft and it looked like rats tails, she had it done at a reputatable salon and paid $800 for it, when she went back they wanted to charge her another $800 and said they "had to order more hair", then she said she wanted them taken out and they wanted to charge her $100 an hour, she has got them to take them out for free but they have refused to give her any money back, I think that's disgusting! x |
