Well i currently have dark brown hair, long story but its naturally medium/light brown.
anyway, to prevent my hair going orange by attempting to dye it again, i'm going to the salon, they said they could only turn my hair back to the original colour by stippping parts bit by bit
so my question is..would light brown highlights look horrid with dark brown hair, or should i get dark blonde highlights or would it be to much of a contrast????
anyway , i REALLY need help on this so any opinions i would be grateful for!

Light brown highlight on dark brown hair woulld look nice and natural
if done finely, not like highlights at all, more like sun-bleached
hair. Blonde highlights, well they look like highlights on dark
hair, but they still look good.
To be honest I think you can get away with most colours on dark brown
hair, especially if you're young. For example, I've got dark blue
extensions, sometimes I have purple, sometimes red, sometimes black,
sometimes platinum! It just depends on what look you're looking
for.

yeh, thats what i thought, and dark would look great in the summer because i've got olive skin, but in the crap weather of England, my skin just goes all sallow and looks yellow with dark hair.
but i'm just wondering whether chunks of dark blonde with dark hair would look trendy or tacky, or whether it would make me look even more sallow

Hi,
Yeah, I'm in England too, and here up north it's especially dull.
I have very fair, pale skin, but I kinda like it so I don't care if I
look washed out, it's part of my "look"!!!
I think blonde will be great in chunks as long as you choose the right
blonde. You want it to look like an expensive blonde. Your
ideas all look good together. I'd say the darker the brown, the
darker the blonde. Dark blondes can look stunning.

Apparently this is dark brown with strawberry, golden, and ash blonde
highlights. I think it looks lovely and natural with a selection
of highlights.

These are platimun, but she they are done very subtley. So if you want chunky, I'd go for the darker blondes.

These are golden blonde chunks, nice example.
Hope that gives you some ideas.

I like the darker ones best. Too light and it might look zebra-ish :-P .

OMG! Like...-le gasps-
I did that this Thursday...DON'T! Omg...don't. I looked like a tiger...
I got precisely that! Dark blonde and light brown together in different sizes...Bro...they were disgusting.
I wanted it kinda that picture on top with the strawberry blondes and ash blondes...but it was FAR from it.
IDk..your hair might be different.

One to two shades lighter than what you have as a base color will result in lovely highlights.
Dark Brown with Light Brown would probably look the best in my opinion.
Bleach highlights to a RED/ORANGE shade

and then tone them with a Light Brown color. Probably best to use colorfix on the highlights prior to bleaching them though...
Good luck!

yeah, right. but i'm a bit confused..when they lighten it too orange, will the toner definately not make it look orangey at all? because my hairs quite ash and i want NO gingery-reddish bits!

..oh yeah and i've booked an appointement to get "consulted" on tuesday and then get the highlights done on saturday.
and my hair is dyed dark brown with a semi-perm to cover up the gingery-part from when i stupidly tried to lighten it a few months ago w/30 vol bleach :s and its starting to look patchy ..so i dont want to end up with patchy dark brown with tacky streaks!

I'm sure the salon will do a great job
They know what they're doing - most of the time

Various combination would go nice with dark brown hair
dark brown hair with copper highlights (Sebastians makes a great copper rinse)
dark brown hair with auburn highlights
