In addition to the other problems I have had with these extensions...  my hair looks like a mushroom!  I had short (above my shoulders) razored hair.  My hair is naturally thick and heavy.  The extensions I got are long.  My hair is just not blending.  I look like I have a mullet cut .   I have fusion extensions with the glue method.  Does she need to add more extensions or can she layer them.  I am so ready to take them out!!!!

get as high as you can with them, most hair can handle up to an inch below the part, thicker hair can handle a 1/2 an inch, then you need to cut the extensions in a way to flow with your hair more, simple layering with a rasor is usually all you need.

Hope That Helps

Yeah, I have the similar problem usually because of my natural hair. What
I usually do is razor the top layer that's showing of my natural hair as
much as possible (it seems to thin it out so it lays flatter and closer to the
extensions.) Then like you said, just get a few layers in there to help
blend it. Also, I just end up flat ironing my natural top layer of hair to
make it thinner and sleeker, otherwise it's kinda frizzy looking and puffs
out.

you can Definetly layer your extensions. any Liscensed  professional who installs extensions, should know how to cut and blend them, otherwise they have no business installing them.

no one leaves my chair without some type of blending and shaping.

if she cannot blend them, find someone in your area that can. if your in so cal, come on over to my Salon, i will help ya.

Silly question but Im curious.

Is the blending and shaping included in the extension price, or is that extra?  Some salons include it and some dont, Im curious what the standerd is.

Layering extension hair is really quite basic, but seems intimidating at first.  You do not need to be a "Licensed professional" to learn how to do this, but there is practice and a "feel" you need to develop.  Check out Amm's site and her new hot razor...there is a little tutorial that shows how to razor many ways...just a good visual.

It's all part of the deal with me.  I can only cut extension hair so if it is something requiring more than blending layers, I coordinate with a stylist and that does cost extra, but I cover that for my clients.

Everyone is different, thats not to say anyones way is better.

my cost include everything, hair, shells, or shrinks, application, blending haircut and style, i send my clients home with a gift bag of shampoo ,conditioner, boar brush and pick and i also treat to lunch or dinner depending on time they are there. IF someone does a coffee run, they  get that too. we also serve fresh coffee and filtered water and sometimes sweets are there as well. I want each of my clients to feel special and pampered when they are in my chair. The whole experience is important to me.

some stylist charge hourly, some charge for hair then install. i like to keep it simple and real straight up this way there is no confusion when i am done. what i quote u is what u pay, no hidden charges what so ever.

when i do maintence, i charge hourly. i use a timer so if i get called away or whatever, the timer stops, i never want a client feeling like i am not working on her for a few mins, yet i am still being charged. I typicially dont get inturepted, however, sometimes it does happen, and i am real fair, if i am not working on you, there is no need for u to be on the clock.

Thats just me, thats how i roll

I agree with Tangles...this is a high-priced service and clients deserve lots of "fluffies" with their service.  I think it is those extras, as well as the quality of the work, that keeps them coming back.

That's a great way to perform your service.

My very first experience getting strand by strand extensions put in,
the stylist charged by the hour and took phone calls and even a
lunch. I got the extreme pleasure of seeing my reflection in the
mirror for almost 10 hours straight and had an expired People
magazine. Her daughter, who owned the salon, came in with a carrier
of 4 Starbucks for the employees and I got to hear yummy sounds
coming from their foam-covered, caramel-coated mouths.

Staying on topic, I have never been able to wear extensions without
some sort of layering/blending either with razor or scissors.

I just got extensions (for the 2nd time in 2.5 wks).  My own hair is very fine.  The extensions are so long (12") and my own hair is above my shoulders.  With the first install, I got home and after playing w/ it, realized it really looked like a mullet.  I went back to the salon the next day and had her cut it again.  It helped but still wasn't the best.  I had my extensions removed and new ones put in today.  She appeared to have done a much better cut than the first time, but sometimes it's hard to know until you get home and start playing with it.  She did the razoring along the sides, as my own layers are very short.  But I think you need to be careful when you start razoring because if you do too much, I think that thins out the hair and you may be able to see the bonds, as well as make your hair stringy.

Tangles - can you share any tips for doing a full instal in 2 1/2 hours?  I was feeling pretty good about taking 5 1/2 to do about 225 strands...does it just keep getting faster?  I would LOVE to be able to do more than one head in a day....
