Look at me....I join this board this week and I already feel like family....

Well I'd like to through out a hair challenge for those who had/or have problems with their hair (i.e thinning edges, bad breakage, etc) and start listing what we are doing to promote healthy hair as well as our progress.  As many of you read my 1st post....I realized, I'm crazy. Yes my edeges have thinned but they are not gone and it's not the end of the world.....so if anyone would like to join me in "operation hair health" please add on.....I'll start w/ my regimine....I'm currently in pencil sized human hair braids.

I wash every other week, w/ a co-wash every week.  (If anyone wants to know how I wash my braids w/out getting the extra fuzz...lemme know).  Apply sulfer 8 and WGO around my edges nightly and massage, I spray condition w/ coconut oil & use silk elements all-in-one root oil daily. (I'm waiting for my WTG, so I can stop using the heavy sulfer 8) I'm taking 2 ultra nourishair vitamins, 1 centrum, 1 msm (1000 mg) and I drink approx. 3 liters of water a day.  I style my braids in non-tension styles, like pin curls or I just wear it down....(as y'all get to know me...I'm somewhat of a cool diva) I allow myself to eat "bad" once a week and that's about it.......I'll keep you posted on my progress. I hope so of y'all will join in........

I am up for the challenge I am trying to get my hair thicker and grow in my thinning edges. Here is my regime:

1. Daily scalp massage for 10-30 min.
2. Massage castor oil on my thinning edges.
3. Massage WGO 2 or 3 times a week.
4. Apply Salerm 21 & WGO everynight.
4. Just started taking vitamins: Iron, Centrium 21, Vitamin e, and Biotin.

I just posted up pics to show my 4mon progress...next pic will be after my relaxer in March.

I'd like to join too as I want to have healthy hair.  I am not too worried about how long it is just as long as it's even and breakage free.  I too suffer from thin edges.  At the moment I have natural 3b/4a hair that is about 12 inches long and very thick.

My regimen:

1. Detangle daily with pantene leave in conditioner mixed with coconut oil.  Pantene has helped with breakage.

2. At night spray with same or if my hair feels it needs moisture I use a home made mixture of jojoba, rosemary, olive oil, Vit E, aloe vera, glycerin and water.  I get the same softening effect as WGO.  I section my hair into 6 braids.  Sleep with a satin cap (now turned inside out in case the elastic is causing breakage).  I also made a shea butter concoction but am not sure when to use it!

3. Monthly pre-condition with Le Kair Cholesterol conditioner mixed with EVOO

4. Washing hair -I wash about every 5 days with baking soda and then condition with VO5 mixed with castor oil.  I section my hair in braids and wash each section at a time.  My hair doesn't like being washed more often than this but if I leave it longer I get breakage.  I then apply a VO5 leave in conditioner.  My hair has been much less dry since I went no-poo.

I notice I get more breakage if I manipulate it a lot or put too much oil into it.  I now finger comb before using the afro comb to reduce breakage. I have bought some new flat irons but don't want to use them until I get my hair healthy.

No vitamins - my hair grows very fast already - my problem is breakage.

Sometimes it feels like my hair is soooo hard work!

i'm in- i have a spot in the rear nape area on the left side of my head that i am focusing on.

I cowash 4 days a week and shampoo on the other 3 days. i deep condition 1-2 times a week. i oil my scalp and ends nightly. Use surge 14 plus hair revitalizer once a day. Detangle with spray on hair detangler 1-2 times a week. Take my vitamins (bee pollen, alfalfa, cod liver oil, vitamin e, garlic oil, flaxseed oil,b-12 and women's multivitamin) Drink lots of water and eat lots of fruit and veggies.

I use castor oil as a pre-poo treatment- prior to washing for 30 mins under dryer or overnite depending upon time constraints.

Pay special attention to my trouble area and massage oil that area twice daily.

Oooh, I'll join....I want healthy hair. Right now my regimin is:

* Shampoo and condition every two weeks with Motions

*Braid or twist hair

*Apply wild growth (once a week) along with Motions scalp conditioner.

*Eat candy and junk food (my downfall x_X)

My mom told me that Castor Oil grows hair long, so I'm going to start using it when I get my hair twisted in a couple of weeks. Currently, my hair is 5.5 inches in the front and about 2 inchches in the back (which reaches to my neck.) I'm not really focusing on long hair right now. Instead I want healthy hair and then I'll move on to all that good stuff!

carameldiva, how much castor oil do you apply to your hair w/ your pre-poos? Do you saturate it to the point where it's wet/oily or apply just a little to coat?  ~tia~

I didn't know about the Castor Oil.....I'm going to try that if the regimine I'm on doesn't work....I do have some progress to report.  My hair has been braided for 2 weeks and I have a decent amount of new growth...for me that's great cause my hair grows slow.  I also noticed that the hair around my edges appears a lot stronger.  I can't tell if it's thickining any but at least the hair appears healthy.  I also mixed Dr. Miracles temple and nape balm w/ ORS temple cream that I apply every morning.  I like the tingly feeling...makes me believe something's going on. I figure if nothing else, I'm going to keep what I got healthy and prayerfully something will promote those sleeply hair folicles to wake up!!!!!!

Oh yeah...I finally got my MTG and it smells like a bar-b-que......ha...so I'm only going to put that on at night...I did a test spot last night and didn't have a reaction so I'll probably switch from my Miracles/ORS regimine to WTG for a while.

How do y'all feel about mixing a little minoxidil w/ my hair oil for my temples?

Lastly here's another formula that is working really well for my hair.......Silk Effects root stimulating oil (virtually, sweet almond oil mixed w/ some other essential oils) I added some rosemary & peppermint oil and it feels so good on the scalp.

Keep pushing.....we're going to fabulous!!!!!!!

Ooh, that's great your hair grew! For me so far....: I have a 1/4 of an inch in new growth (for this month, and it's still growing strong!) I haven't gotten twist yet (so no castor oil), but I greased my scalp last night and applied Wild Growth and my hair grew a couple of milimeters in the back.

I am so happy, usually my hair doesn't grow (seriously. From the past 8 months, I've actually seen growth) so I'm sooo happy that I'm finally taking care of my hair the right way <3

Deexox...If it weren't for sites like these, I'd still be under my old regimine which was getting me no where.  I never really knew how to correctly take care of my hair.  Now the same way I take time to care for my body, I take the time to care for my hair........

Um, i pretty much saturate i guess you would say- i have a 4-6 oz applicator bottle that i put mine in and i use half to 3/4 of that bottle. I apply it to my scalp and ends and then massage it in . Then i put on a thin plastic cap- i either sleep on it overnite or put it on , on the day of my shampoo and put on a thin plastic cap and sit under the dryer for a half hour before shampooing. Hope this clarifies things.

BE CAREFUL USING MINOXIDIL.

Learn more about it before you use it.

I hear there is some drug that is great for growing hair, but if you stop using it, the new growth falls out. Also, it can't be handled by pregnant or lactating women, or women who may soon get pregnant.

I think it's Minoxidil, I'm not exactly sure, but I posted this to let you know to research it before you use it.

If there weren't such problems as this, I'd probably be using the stuff myself.
