Depends what your natural colour is.  If you have very light blonde or platinum hair, almost white, then it will get close but will need toners etc.  Otherwise, it is not possible because the hair needs to be lifted in several stages.
From black/dark brown, to lighter reddy brown, to reddy orange, to yellowy orange, to yellow, to pale yellow...it just can't make all of those jumps in one step unfortunately.

I remember when my hair use to be it's natural color (pretty much black)...I got highlights with bleach...and they were pretty white.

But then...I dyed it red...and got highlights and they were orange...and now that I got the red out...they were still orange-ish.

White hair?  Just wait 40 or 50 years and you will have it au natural.

Isn't that always the way-- white hair looks so cool on young people, yet we don't get it (without a long, harsh chemical process, anyway :-P ) until we're so old it looks ordinary -_- . . .

But people always want something other than what they have, and a lot of old people dye their hair to cover up the fact their white - like you say Kuroneko, because it looks so ordinary.

I reckon that happened because you were only doing small parts - try and do the whole head that way and you end up with very muddy results!
