My natural hair is tangeling at the roots after only 4 weeks with the extensions in. The tangeling is really bad at my crown. I have been sleeping with it in a ponytail and drying it after it gets wet. I don't understand what's going on!

here's some pics (god this is embarrassing)

first off nothing to be embarrassed about,

let me explain this as best i can-

typically we loose about 140-200 strands of our OWN hair a day- seeing that we still loose the hair while the extension is in your hair, the hair on each strand is now locked in with what ever method u used to install. So, the shedded hair from one extension and the shedded hair from the next one has decided to get married, have a baby and name her tangle and Matt- all it seems to be is the shedded hair matting with the other strands, not a big deal, i would just remove those few extensions comb out the matt very gently and reinstall.

Do make sure, right out of the shower, you use a pick and comb out all your hair  then use a styling product, get or straightning balm, then dry - hopefully this can help you.

thanx so much! do you think this could also be from me installing the extensions to far away from my scalp, I usually do them 1 inch from my scalp. mabe I should install them closer to my scalp, like 1/2 an inch?

1 inch from the scalp is a lot. That would be the equivalent of 2 months of growth.

Most definitely the farther away the hair extension is from the root, the more likely it is to tangle.  That's why after 12 weeks extensions should be redone, since they are  usually hanging  1-1 1/2 " away from the scalp.

I agree with Metalgirl, an inch away is alot. So if they were installed an inch away from the scalp and youve had 4 weeks of regrowth, then the bonds are probably 1 & 1/2 inch away from the scalp now...its time for a redo!

Also I find that when threading the shrinkie or shell, if you don't catch all the small short hairs in the threader by holding it close to the scalp you will push up the short hairs when you are pushing the shrink in to place. These things are especially hard to see when installing on your own head.
