Hi Ladies! I was wondering how do straighten your hair without using a perm or a press comb.

Thanks

Just like everyone mentioned above, there Are pros and cons to all types.

I've heard some of them complain of hair being too thin and lifeless, I've heard'em complain its not coarse enough to style.  And have you ever tried to put their hair into a nice and smooth pony with no lumps or nothing!  I have and its hell!

By the time you smooth out the right side the left side has fallen again and now its all lumpy.

I would love for my hair to be not so porous but moisturized down to the tips like it is for some of them, but other than that.... I like what I got.  I personally think its harder to have their hair, it doesn't style easy enough for me.

Oh and that whole thing of HAVING to wash everyday, yeah.... I dont wish for that.  And that whole head lice thing too.  I'll pass on that one too!

sorry.... posted on wrong thread.  LOL

But to answer your question, you don't want absolutely no heat???  B/c I have no idea of how to do that w/o heat.  I straighten mine w/ a flat iron (maxiglide).

You might wanna try letting it dry in a pony or in some big braids but it's not gonna be as nearly straight as it would if you press it.

Sorry I couldn't be of better assistance.

i really dont know of any other way. heat is the only thing i can think of to make your hair straight. if u are afraid of heat damage, then just use a heat protectant like Beyond the Zone before you use a flat iron.

A roller set can work but not as well on "nappier" hair types also banding, brushing out.

What worked for me was brushing my hair out then putting in hot rollers.

I wet wrap mine and after it's pretty much all dry I blow dry it for a few minutes with some moisturizer (you can eliminate that part if you absolutely want to use no heat), then I put it back in a bun, kinda like doing one big bantu knot.  When I take it down it's mostly big waves but not completely straight like when I use the maxiglide.  I don't think you will be able to get your hair completely straight w/o heat, especially if your hair is natural.  I know some relaxed ladies can get theirs straight just by doing a wet wrap though.  I have pics of the wavy style in my fotki under the wavy/curly album.

It deepens on your hair and just how straight you want it, but here's what I do to avoid direct heat of the blowdryer or flat iron.

1) Wash & condition. Towel dry, apply RUSK Smoother Aloe Leave in Conditioner. Section off and combed it thru, I always part in the middle.

2) Smooth new growth down with NTM Silk Leave in or Organic root stimulator Olive Oil Lotion, pull back into a ponytail. I work in sections, until all hair is throughly saturated. Make sure you apply A LOT of the leave in so you won't "snap" your hair and make the pony tight.

3) Take a satin scarf and tie it very tight around hair. Make sure it wraps around head tight like a headband.(Tie knot at your neck) Take out ponytail so hair will hang down in the back. This step is important. You must get the scarf tight so when you take out the pony it won't just shrink right up.

4) Put in more leave on back and comb. Section off and rollerset all that is hanging in back. You might want to just add the leave in as you set, adding it to each section of hair.

5) Sit under dryer 20-30 mins or you can air dry. I've done it both ways, and the results are about the same, BUT air drying takes 500000000 years for your hair to dry. So pack a lunch.

This takes a lot of time (2hrs) and conditioner for my 4a/b hair, but if I tie it up around the house (in case I sweat) and at night it will remain for about a week.

Now someone with a looser curl could probably get it bone straight with lot less effort doing this and never have to use direct heat.

This is kind of like what the guys use to do back in the day to get the waves ... you guys old enough to remember the 80's and doo rags.    Man I hated to see our brothers in the streets with those things flapping in the wind. That ranked with the shower cap in the street and the dripping curl.

Good Luck
