i wanted a completey different look from what i've always had: long, long curly hair, so i cut it all off. it was very pretty but hard to tame, a combination of straight at the roots, curling as it grows out w/ some straight strands that refused to curl.  my hair can be blown out (but has always been very dry/frizzy) but now that it is so short (pixie-ish) its really hard to style and if left natural becomes a close cropped fro. i would have no problem with this, except that it is not flattering to the shape of my face at all.  a friend recommended japanese straightening since i want to straighten this length until it grows out (i am not interested in re-straightening new growth) but i am very skeptical and doubt the results would be positive.  has anyone experimented with this? or have seen the results on this type of hair??  thanks

Don't do it! I would run quickly in the other direction of the chemical straightening system.

How long was your "long, long curly hair"?

Nice to meet you

I agree, don't do it.  Especially if you don't want to keep restraightening new growth.  I put a permanent straightener on my naturally curly hair and now I regret it.  It looks nice, but the regrowth is hard to deal with.  I wish I'd never done it.   I did get a Rusk Anti Curl done before with good results, it didn't permanently straighten, it just made my curls more manageable. You might think about doing something like that.

thanks for the replies!! my hair was always long because I was never allowed to cut it growing up, except for the ends.  when i cut it, my hair was waist-line curly.  i dont know how long that would be straight, because after a while it was jjust too much hassle.  how long would the Rusk anti curl take effect? until the next wash?  thnx a lot. -jes

no no, it lasts about 3-4 months.  with my hair that's about how long it would take before I could tell it needed to be done again.
