Only it's not the extension hair that's matting - the extension hair is just fine. It's my own hair next to the scalp that's matting, especially in the lower layers. I'm really afraid of damage, but I've only had the extensions in for about six weeks and don't want to take them out yet unless it's necessary! Is there a way to keep them from matting together? Is there a different way of putting the bonds in to keep them from matting? I do run my hands through the bonds and separate them but most of the time it feels like I'm tearing them apart ... which is unnerving, to say the least. If it's the only way, please let me know and I will take them out. I don't want to lose my own hair because of this! |

how far away from the roots did you install the extensions? The reason I ask is becuase Ive noticed (with mine) that that usually starts happening when the bond gets grown out or further away from the roots. About the time when you are ready for a re-do. |

Dammit, i knew it. Well ... I tried to put them as close to the roots as possible, but since I did them myself, it's possible the ones in back are further away. I would say they're about 3/4 of an inch from the scalp now? I guess maybe it is time for a re-do. Is it possible to reuse pretipped fusion hair? |

3/4 of an inch isnt that much. I dont ususally start getting any matting or tangling in the bonds until they are well over an inch away from the scalp. Or say around about the 8/9 week area I start noticing the problem. I can never make it longer than about 9/10 weeks with any individual strand method. My hair grows very fast (but its wimpy and brittle Id try just keeping them seperated, a few times a day (gently, of course) use a looper brsuh to brush the root area a couple of times a day. Try that and maybe it will help. I dont think with 3/4 of an inch growth that you should be ready for a re-do. But if the tangling or matting is too bad and you cant get them apart on a daily basis without tearing them then that isnt a good thing either, then you may need to consider a re-do. |

Great advice Sherrie- I agree. Try clipping up the majority of your hair on the top of your head leaving the last 2"-3" of hair down so you can get in there and get it nicely brushed out. Then let about 3 more inches of hair down and brush that out. Keep going till you finish your entire head. It's best to do this at least once or twice a day. It allows you to really get in there and make sure everything is being brushed out. Not to worry though, I even get a little matting around my roots after about 8-10 weeks- it's completely normal. If you start to get bonds that matte up together or huge dreds then you may have a problem. It sounds like you're doing good, keep it up |
