Subject: Indianhairs.com & RK Hairs machine wefted
Date Posted: February 20 2006 at 9:43am

I'm thinking about ordering from indianhairs.com and/or RK Hair.  I've read all the reviews (good and bad) on both here and the Black Hair forum.. I've heard lots about how inexpensive this hair is (despite the price increase, this is still a good deal on hair), and how nice this hair can be (once you wash and condition it after receiving it) I've also heard loads (more than I care to hear about) about the hair having nits..
But...
What I haven't seen any solid feedback on is the machine wefted hair and how it holds up in terms of shedding and matting.. I was hoping to get some more opinons on their machine wefted hair.

I've been using EP custom machine wefted hair the last two years, and it has performed well for me.. Hardly any shedding and (knock on wood), it has NEVER matted on me. I know some of you ladies prefer hand wefted hair, but I personally do not have any issues with my weaves looking bulky or with shedding using HIGH QUALITY machine wefted hair (like EP hair), and besides.. I'm old school.. I prefer machine wefted hair, and I still rock the sew-in weaves.

So if any of you ladies have any expereince with Indianhairs.com or RK Hairs machine wefted hair, can you tell me how the hair held up over time. Was the hair reusable?? How long were you able to re-use it?? Thanks.. I appreciate your help..

I havent got to try out the indianhairs yet.But i have bought to full batches of 8 ounce rk.The first batch was color #6.It looked great upon arrival. Then i toned it with a demi and it looked even better. The hair lasted for months.

The next batch made me suspect I'd gotten lucky the first time.It was the exact same color as the first batch #6.But when I first got it out of the package it was kind of dry,and much coarser than the first batch.Plus to top it off It was very tangly.Since I had such a good run with the first batch I thought it might just need some tlc.So I soaked it in oils and conditioner for hours.I did this a couple of times.and nothing helped. It was unsaveable. Most like me have had only bad experiences with R.k. So I would save your money and get some bohyme. They carry a ton of different textures and curl and wave patterns. They have hair to suit anyones hair needs.

As far as r.k. goes I wouldnt waste my money.I'm actually waiting on an order from indianhairs.I must be crazy, lol.Hopefully I'll have better luck with it than the awful Rk.

Did you try to get your money back or exchange the hair if it was bad?? I think if you pay with a credit card, you are afforded some protections from the credit card company if you receive defective merchandise..

What would be the reason to order from Indian Hairs versus RK?? (since they are the same company)

Hehe,I guess i never even thought of returning it.I keep all my hair I dont like(granted its not a  heap of hair trash). It always get used for one thing or another.I usually use it to practice with on my sally's head. Its like a barbie head fro adults, lol.

And the reason why I ordered from indianhairs after being dissapointed with rk is because they sell Virgin indian hair.Where as Rk's has obviously been fried from being overprocessed.

I know there has been a lot of bad press with RK hair but here's my deux centimes.

I have maybe 4 lbs of RK hair here in lengths from 20 to 16", mostly straight but some wavy, and all in 1b, 2 and 4. I wear it every day in all types of combinations. Some batches are bad (not many, maybe 2 bags), some are stellar. Most are absolutely totally fine, suitable, long lasting, and worth the price. I know a lot of you have had bad experiences, but overall I find RK hair to be a great value. Because it's so inexpensive, if the batch turns out to be dog hair, I throw it out in a month. If not, I keep it.

All the hair I have left is machine weft. Herein lies the rub.

It DOES shed. I'm not gonna lie. And it sheds like a big dog. I have spent weeks pulling hair out all day long and my house and car have been filled with long dark hairs...it's gross. So what I ALWAYS ALWAYS do wiht RK hair is coat the weft with nail glue - BOTH SIDES - before I cut and install it with proflex tapes. This cuts down significantly on shedding.

I can take measures to counteract the shedding, but there's nothing I can do for funky hair that dries up in 2 weeks or turns into a huge knot at the base of my neck. So far, I have not had that experience with RK. It gets split on the ends for sure, but it can also be brought back easily from dryness with intense conditioning and can definitely take coloring. If you give it a chance, it's usually very good hair especially for the price.

Just MHO. If anyone wants a hunk to try, I'll be happy to send you some. I've got heaps.

The good batch was double drawn. The bad batch was single drawn. I cant remember if they were machine wefted or handtied.

syren:I'm glad someone has had a decent experience with it.Have you ever ordered from indianhairs? I just got my massive pound o hair. And its beautiful. It came better than the best batch of Rk.I'm still doing tests to make sure it really is virgin. But right now all signs point to yes.My only vice is that they soaked it in some kind of smelly oil.And it needed to be clarified real good.

Well you ladies have certainly made me feel a little better about my purchase.. I just got confirmation that my order has been shipped yesterday.. Since I hear they ship pretty quickly, I expect I'll be seeing my order by early next week..

I decided to get the 1b color since it's more likely that they will have to do very little processing to the hair to get this color since most of the hair donors natural color is closer to 1b.. I bought one batch each of the single drawn Remy hair on each kind of weft. I still prefer machine wefted hair but, since the hair was so cheap, I wanted to compare both kinds of wefts.. (who knows I may convert to hand wefted hair yet.. )

I sure am disappointed to hear the machine wefted hair sheds a lot.. This means the hair may not be as reusable as my trusty EP hair .. I think I'll be stopping by my local fabric store for some Fray Check to reinforce the wefts.. (unless someone has another suggestion for sealing the wefts...)

Waiting for the UPS man...

ok heres my info-

i purchased the rk, wefts and ind.

they both shed like mad- i mean hair all over my shirts, floor etc. it matted, terribly. that was only after wearing it for 1 week. i did the conditioner, the oil and even had to pick nits out of the hair Eltch!

it came out after a week and went directly into the trash, when i emailed them to say it was bad, their response was well u can ship it back but the cost to ship it back wont be worth the price of the hair.

my main hair i use now is Extensions Plus- that hair far surpasses ANY hair i have ever installed on myself, or clients. i also offer the lush(ind) for me that hair holds up really well too.

if u are used to ep- using this rk will totally make u see just how bad it really is.

not trying to burst your bubble, but i wanted to give u my honest feedback.

Tangles.. no bubble busting at all..  what I wanted was honest opinions, and I appreciate (and respect) yours.. I too love EP hair.. (been wearing the same EP hair for two years.. and it's still going strong)

I went on this quest looking for the same quality, at a lesser price only because I now need to buy more hair, and I will NEVER buy BSS hair again.. I wanted to see what was out there that would compare to EP hair in terms of quality and durability..

Do you mind me asking which RK hair did you get.. double drawn, remy, etc??

I think tangles is right.Ep is supposed to be the best.RK is definitely bottom of the barrel.I really hope you get a good batch,as so many were dissapointed by this hair.

The virgin hair I ordered seems alot better. It lightens easy,It has a beautiful wave pattern after washed.Plus its super soft and silky.

the downsides at first glance are the few grays it has. They are very few.It doesnt bother me,as I Am dying it anyhow. But I know some people would hate that. And like I said before it came with some kind of wierd oil on it.I couldnt see or feel the oil,but I could smell it.And it was obvious after washing the hair that it was there.Plus it was very reasonable.I got 1 lb for$240.I was going to order from amm (cause she has EP hair) but hers was being sold by the lb,which sent the price up to $428 for the length I need..the hair looks beautiful though.Maybe later.I know realistically her hair will last a super long time,so it would definitely be a good investment.Maybe later....

Again, your opinion. To say rk is definitely the bottom of the barrel is a broad generalization. The dark colors have been good for lots of people. Most of the people who had problems with it had the lighter colors. As for anything being 'the best,' well...His and Hers Cuticle is supposed to be 'the best' and I've had batches that were good and one that was dog hair in 3 weeks. Some people love Bohyme (oh, it's 'the best') and others can't stand it.

You've gotta try lots of things to find what you like. Just because something is expensive or 'the best' doesn't mean it will be for you.

Case in point: Tangles and Amanda both swear by Lush, and my experience with the batches I got was that it turned to dried out tangly straw in a week that no amount of conditioning could fix. Go figure.

You are absolutely right What might be great hair for one, might be horrible for another person. I can only vouch for myself. And after that second batch i would never order hair from RK again.I imagine the darker more natural colors are better.

Ep seems the best. Its the only hair that hasnt got mixed reviews.Everyone really loves it.But I agree it doesnt have to be expensive to be good hair.As my indianhairs hair proves.

I guess for me what describes best is based on the following:

1. Hair that does not mat during normal wear

2. Hair that doesn't shed EXCESSIVELY (all of this hair will shed, it's the degree to which it sheds that makes it good quality)

My experience with EP is not just based on my own rave reviews, it's the hair that three good extensionsits I have used all recommended.. One of them will not use anything else except EP because of EP's great track record. EP is very expensive though, and it doesn't fit everyone's wallet.. (Thank god for Amex! ) But that doesn't mean there isn't other hair out there that will meet this standard without hitting the wallet so hard.. Hence my curiosity about RK & Indian Hairs. I opted for the darker more natural colors because I suspect that the reported problems with this hair is that it's been overprocessed by RK.. But we'll see.. I do appreciate the opinions.. It helped me guage whether or not to buy some of this hair to take a look for myself.. In any case the hair is cheap enough to take a look without hitting the wallet too heavy..

i ordered double drawn both wefts and ind. i received single drawn.

i ordered #613  wefts and ind and # 2 wefts.

both found a great home in the trash!

i agree with the statement- not all hair has to be expenisve, and yes lush was and is very good to me, go figure!

How true.. which is what put me on a quest to find a product with EPs quality for a better price.. I've been looking at Luxury Locs, Remy Hair Today, and Elite Remy as good quality alternatives..

I think it's all about Quality Control.. Some vendors have it.. others not so much.. However even with the best QCing, it is human hair, and it can't ALL be perfect.. EP has a good exchange policy in the event of receiving "defective" product.. So does Luxury Locs (a vendor I recently started buying hair from), and there are others as well who stand behind their product.. RK & Indian Hairs don't allow exchanges, and there's the rub..

In a way we may be getting what we pay for when we buy from them.. Consistent QC costs money.. So in a way they are passing those savings on to us! .. RK or Indian Hairs may not ultimately meet my standards for hair.. I'll know when I get the hair.. It was cost efficient enough for me to check it out.. But I know friends who need to step up from BSS har, and EP isn't in their budget.. this hair may do the trick for them.. If so.. I'll pass it on to them..

I have 8oz of RK single drawn #2 (which is a 4 in most other lines)  I have used it on 3 installs so far, and putting it back in this weekend for another run.  Maybe I got lucky but I will be ordering again.  Mine doesn't shed anymore than any other hair I have tried - granted most of the shedding is during the takedown of the installs and when I clean it in between installs.  I soaked mine in olive oil and conditioner before  I wore it.

Three installs sounds great, but how long did your wear the extensions before you took it down and re-installed.. In other words, how long (how many months) have you been wearing the hair?

Okay.. So my RK hair came in tonight.. My feet hurt because I had to stand in a Friday night UPS pickup frenzy tonight.. TWO HOURS waiting to pick up HAIR!! How's that for sheer dedication?? I couldn't wait to see.. BUT my husband and I stopped to get food, and I resisted the temptation to play with my new hair before I ate dinner..

So here's the thing about it.. I opened the box, held my breath, and I was PLEASANTLY surprised! Actually.. I was SHOCKED.. The hair is really pretty! I mean it's gorgeous! The hand tied and the machine wefts are well constructed, and most importantly... NO D*MN NITS!!!!

To say I'm surprised is an understatement.. No bad smell.. (did I say no nits already..) No bushy ends, shiny SOFT hair.. I've been brushing it.. combing it.. running my fingers through it, and the shedding seems about on par with the level of shedding I got with my EP hair (which is to say it sheds VERY little.. very few hairs come off the either type of weft..) All in all so far I'm pleased.. When I ordered.. I did take a tip from one of the ladies on BHF.. I added a note under special instructions of my order that went something like this:

I expect this hair to be in the following condition:

  • No nits
  • No white hairs
  • Clean
  • Minimal split/damaged ends
  • Length and weight should as ordered

I will inspect this hair for professional quality and order again if it meets quality standards.

Now I don't know if this made a bit of difference when they fulfilled my order.. but the hair sure looks good.. So maybe it made a difference.. we'll see.. I'm prepping it tonight, and at 6:00 am tomorrow (this morning) I will be sitting with the hair diva himself to do a takedown and install with the RK hair.. I'll post back my results..

But I do need some help from you experts.. The hand tied wefts I got suprised me the most.. they actually look like small versions of the machine weft..

So I put it out there to you ladies.. I know you can't cut hand wefts unless you seal the cut ends.. but I swear these wefts look like they could be cut withut needing sealing.. Am I seeing this correctly??? Do any of you have experience with cutting the hand tied wefts on the RK hair??

Crystal

I got 16" single draw straight hair in both the hand tied and machine wefts.. It comes looking silky straight, but once it's washed the hair gets a very nice soft wave to it, and it flat irons beautifully.. It blends VERY well with my relaxed hair wet or dry..

Gosh.. Thanks.. I'm blushing..

I gotta say.. I had some reservations about this hair.. I really took to heart what you all of you ladies said about this hair, and I appreciate ALL of your feedback.. I will definitely keep the forum posted on how this hair wears over time..

I am in love with this hair.. I never thought I would find hair that I (and my VERY picky stylist..) would love as much as I loved my EP hair.. My stylist RAVED about this hair.. He is making plans for all the ways he is going to style it for me during the next three months. LOL

Normally I get 14" hair and have it cut to just about shoulder length.. This hair is so soft, and it MOVES like nobody's business. So MY STYLIST decided for me that I would be wearing this hair long.. (just past my shoulders)  He's thinking of trying a wet set with rods in a few weeks.. I wore my EP hair that way for that last month, and the curls always held between my regular hair appointments.. It ought to be Fabulous on this hair!!

I will try and post pics tonight.. My husband's the one with the digital camera.. I'll get him to take a few picks so I can post.. I should post pics of the EP hair we took out today too.. I am AMAZED how well the EP hair has held up in the two years I've worn it..

I'll work on the pics..

Crystal

EP- so far nothing in my opinion compares to the wearability, and strength this hair has. my whole head is installed with ep- i have about 70 strands ind. and my new Mane Tracks about 6 wefts installed with my new technique. I will post new pics this week!

they dont shed, or dry out at all.

Post some pics Diva, would love to see this hair rk hair- maybe they changed the quality after so many complaints. the real test is in about three weeks wear.

Tangles.. I couldn't agree with you more about EPs hair.. I was in love with mine.. I wanted to buy more, but before I spend $400 or $500 again, I wanted to at least SEE if there was something else out there on par.. I can't wait to see the new pics of your new EP hair.. My ONLY beef with EP was the size of the beard on the wefts.. On fresh installs the beard would scratch and irritate my scalp for the first two weeks.. If I am careful, can I trim the beard down without compromising the integrity of the wefts or the hair??

Originally posted by TanglesRC TanglesRC wrote:

You're right the REAL test of this RK hair will be how it wears over time.. and my standards for judging hair is that it must perform AS WELL as my EP hair did.. (I'll post pics of my two year old EP hair too after I clean and condition it just so I can show folks here how good this hair really is..) So far so good.. MINIMAL shedding, and no tangles, and it does not mat around the neck like BSS hair does..

If this hair wears well, I'm sold.. If not, I'll be back at EP. (Hell I'll still be back at EP either way.. I still LOVE their hair..) However, even if this hair wears well, and I buy more, I will never buy RK's colored hair.. It will ONLY be 1 or 1b colors for me.. I really believe they over process their colored hair.. If I want color I will order from indianhairs.com and have my stylist color it.. Pics on their way.. Gotta get the husband unit to take 'em for me..

looks gorgeous Diva! I had bad luck w/ IH too. But my problems were with the curly. It wasn't curly for one thing and tangled a lot too. I had color 1b. I ordered straight hair too but i never got around to using it. So maybe  it's  nice like yours.. I ordered 12 inc straight tho and it's too short for me to wear, so i just put that in the stash.  Wish it were longer, cause yours sure looks nice.

I ordered straight hair too but i never got around to using it. So maybe  it's  nice like yours.. I ordered 12 inc straight tho and it's too short for me to wear, so i just put that in the stash.  Wish it were longer, cause yours sure looks nice.
Thanks.. I usually get 12" hair and wear it just at my shoulders.. I ordered longer to account for split/damaged ends.. Turns out that the ends were in remarkable shape, and my stylist was so in love with this hair that HE decided for me that I would wear it longer this time.. tee hee hee.. So far I'm impressed.. I will report back as time goes how well this hair is holding up..
