1. You do not "Have" to drill the nails!!!! Actually, they do not ever need to be! My guess is they werent properly trained.
2. You are right, silk wraps are not as durable. They are very thin and are greart for natural nail repairs or for someone who isnt hard on their nails or has nice nails to begin with. In terms of strength, acrylic is strongest followed very closely by gel (on some people gel is better than acrylic though!) followed by a dip system (a glue that is dipped in powder), then fiberglass wraps then silk wraps then press on nails, which are weak.
3. are they silk? You tell me - silk is a piece of silk fabric that is very cloisely woven and whne applied to the nail and covered with the adhesive become totally transparent. No powder or liquid needed.
4. Your best bet is to find a reputable salon and discuss your options with your techncian. The tech should be able to advise you on what works based on *your* lifestyle. I love message boards, but what worked -or didnt- for one person here may be totally different for you!
