So the past month and a half I noticed a few flakes in my hair but didnt think anything of it until last month when after I would blow dry my hair straight I had horrible dry scalp and dandruff. So I figured it was from blowdrying my hair too much, so I gave it a break for a week and just let it go curly thinking that the flakes would just go away. Well tonight I was busy in the mirrow plucking my eyebroes and then I saw these disgusting spots of dry skin so I of course start scratching my scalp like crazy to get it out. Well bad idea cause it just made it worse and now my scalp is bleeding in certain spots and it hurts! WTF should I do?? If I get some Head & Shoulders will that do the trick fast??? I am totally freaking out and need some good shampoos or other products to use to make my scalp more moist & I need to get the flakes out!!!

Hi, I kinda had your problem one time......wow, long time ago. But anyways...the best advice I can give you is just leave your head alone, because, as I'm sure you've found out, it just makes it worse and stirs up the flakes even more. As for the bleeding, just leaving your head alone should cause that to stop. I had mine for a while, because every time it would start to scab over, I would scratch at it and re-open the spot. I even pulled out hair!!!OUCH! But I would definitely recommend Head & Shoulders. It helped alot and now I am spot and dandruff free!!

MoMo, it sounds like you have a dry scalp rather than dandruff, in which case Head and Shoulders and other dandruff products won't help.  Try a moisturising shampoo (or one specifically for a dry / sensitive scalp, I think there is a Neutrogena one - not T Gel (that's also for dandruff) and sticking to only warm or lukewarm water when you wash your hair.  Also include at least one rinse as cold as you can bear (to stimulate the bloodflow to your scalp).  After three washes like this, you should see an improvement.

Other things that could help are massaging your scalp (to stimulate blood flow) and ensuring that you eat enough "good" fats such as oily fish, nuts, seeds (especially flax seeds) and olive oil to stop dry skin in general.

Good luck.
