Hi All,

I recently had a relaxer put in by a friend (TCB Naturals) Anyways after this my hair started falling out in clumps! I have long thick hair, shoulder length and i am assuming either the relaxer was not good for me or it wasn't rinsed out well.

I went to a hair salon and the beautician recommended that i use Redken deep fuel ( a treatment) and a leave-in conditioner by Redken too. At first i wasn't sure if this products were good for African hair but i purchased them anyway, as i was really desperate to stop the breakage. When i 1st used them last week the breakage was considerably less when combing my hair (and i am using a very wide tooth comb) but then yesterday which is about 4 days after the shampoo i notice that it was falling off in huge amonuts again. Does anyone have any reccomendations, should i shampoo it more frequently maybe every 3-4 days? At the moment almost half of the back is all gone (i know i have to cut it some point) but it is almost bald  at the back so my beautician recommended keeping my front as a cover-up while we wait for the back to grow a little more. My concern is that my front sides are falling too, i feel like i won't be able to cover up it much longer. What should i do, i am thinking of getting a wig for a while as it grows back, but i have never even worn one, i am not sure which would be best. Is there anything that would stop the breakage and help regrowth?

Thanks

Are you sure your friend got out all of the relaxer? Maybe you need to get a neutralizing shampoo...sorry about all this =\

I'm sorry that you're having such a bad time with all of this.

This is why I ALWAYS have a professional do my chemicals and only have it "texturized" versus relaxed straight. At least if they screw it up, I have someone to sue for it.

If it's breaking off at the ends and you had no skin irritation, I would assume that your friend probably "overlapped" your previously relaxed hair with the relaxer.

If it's breaking off at the skin, she probably didn't rinse it out well or left it in too long.

The only thing I can suggest (my non-professional opinion) is to only use a very gentle shampoo and conditioner for a couple of weeks, NO NEW PRODUCTS, and a gentle hair moisturizer that you've used before to give it a little rest and see where it goes from there. Sometimes your hair just needs a little rest for a while.

Another thing, ALWAYS have a professional to do your chemical services. It's more expensive, but it will save you money in the future from buying stuff to fix it, and the outcome will be worth the extra money.
