I've found something that works really well for topping off pro-tacs.

I had to remove my top weft because you could see some of the pro-tac.
So I wanted a way to replace the top that I had removed to keep the
volume I had. So the problem is my top layer is really short and really
razored to death, so it's hard to disguise the extensions, but if I don't put
them high enough, it looks horrible. So I was thinking of just taking the
pre-tipped pieces and putting in microlinks on top.

I was thinking and looking around, and I decided to attach microlinks to
the weft (which was my original idea, but decided the pro-tacs would be
quicker and easier). Dr. Locks has a good demo for this. So I put it pretty
high up, and it looks pretty good. Because you put the microlinks on the
underside of the weft, you can't see where they attach, you can only see
the weft (which on the Elite it's so small, and it's the same color as my
hair, so you have to LOOK HARD to see it.)

It's harder to do, I would definately recruit a friend to help you. I kinda
BSed it, you are ment to make an X, like take hair from both directions, I
only did one on most because I couldn't see the back of my head. But it
looks pretty nice.

If you have probs like me with the tapes showing, I would give this a shot.

I've been doing something similar with shrinkies....

I cut the pro-tac in half length-wise and folded the thinner tape over the weft, then anchored it with shrinkies at the ends and every couple inches around the back.  The thinner tape doesn't show as much and the shrinkies help hold it in.

I might try your method monsterita....the tapes stay in good for me, but at 6 weeks the tapes were hanging over an inch away from my scalp, maybe anchored with shrinkies they wouldnt slip as quickly. And I think the tape is strong enough that using just half of it would still be secure, yet give less tape to become visable...getting ready for an install now...just not sure wht hair I want to use! LOL
