| Why is it that when I try to straighten my hair with a flat iron the new grow fights so hard i mean i thought heat was what whipped it into submission? Its not fair i mean what do i have to do here beat my hair up? Any tips on getting new groth straightened out |

do u use a heat protecting serum or spray( Fantasia IC makes the best for me)?, they can really help,, maybe you're not putting the iron hot enough??,, are u clamping the iron tight enough,,maybe u havent got the method down,, i dunno ,,im a 3b and sometimes have a difficult time when i cant get the angle of the iron correctly and its frustrating at the back of my head.. i cant think of anything else..... HTH ------------- Hair type: 3b some c?, fine strands, last relaxer sept 05, never again!!! current :ap length on sides,,nearly bsl in back, damn those old frazzled ends! I am hair OBSESSED |

USE a little more heat protectant on the new growth..if that doesn't work.. I'd say use "grease"!.. I know I'm totally going against a lot of ladies when I say this..but it has never failed me once..and I have never noticed it harming my hair..as long you dont apply it to your scalp. Only do this if you absolutely can't get it straight |

im disagree with the grease thing, but i recommend using jojoba or olive oil ------------- 4b-natural,shoulder blade length,hair goal of to my bra strap

I have 4a/b hair and I flat iron when my hair is out of braids 1x a week. This is my trick. Apply a generous amount of ORS Olive Oil Lotion to damp hair. If you use double heat of the blow dryer this helps, and it is also excellent if you air dry. I mainly section off and do twist. http://public.fotki.com/1babydimple/i_love_me_challenge/wettwist.html - http://public.fotki.com/1babydimple/i_love_me_challenge/wett wist.html Because I do twist to dry my hair, it is sectioned while it's drying, this also helps to calm the kink and the comb out. To flat iron you must 1, have completely dry hair and 2, grab the section of hair mid way and pull it straight before the iron even hits it. Think of it like this the iron just flattens wrinkles, basically. So if you let it be balled-up it will take a lot of heat, but if you lay it as flat as possible it will iron flatter and quicker. Ever tried to iron a shirt that's balled up good luck I hope this helps

| Ive done this and it still doesnt get straight. well i wash condition then i blow dry just until its 50% dry..then i roll my hair up and let it dry the rest of the way. Then I unroll my hair when its dry section it up and then flat iron it . When i flat iron have the setting on 5 when its time to relax and 3 when ive just had it relaxed. I grab a section puls it taunt then i run the iron over it...i just dont get it could it be my flat iron? Its those two in one kinds you know it turns from a flat iron to a curling iron kinda things. Maybe i just have the kind of new grow that fights ? plz help i hate looking like a wilderbeast |

It's most likely not your hair. Are you blow drying with a large tooth comb attachment, because it's hard to blow dry kinky hair straight without it by yourself. I can get my new grow 75% straight with just the blow dryer. Also when blow drying & flat ironing reduce the size of the section your are dealing with. I personally can not work with anything larger than say, 2 fingers. So try dividing your roller section in half and working with that. It takes me about an hour to do my entire head, but I can get it relaxer straight if I want to. Finally, perhaps you do need a new iron and what products are you using? I personally use Jojoba Oil, but like I said grease has never failed me in the worst scenario. I'm thinking it just may be the iron. I've never had luck with those kinds of irons. Right now I'm using a Tigi Hardcore Iron it put me out about 90 bucks, it was totally worth and straightens whenever I need it. I've heard Hot Tools is good, or Jilbere; for the most expensive route, you could go out for a Sedu, or Solia. If you're not up to buying a new flat iron, which I think you totally should, I suggest KeraCare Creme Press, Fantasia IC Gloss Drops, or Redken Smooth Down Serum. All of these products are great when you have a ton of new growth, and no chemicals! Let me know how it turns out! |

I recently bought a Revlon Titanium - Ceramic Iron at Wally World for a friend and I think I paid $25-$29 and get the ORS Olive Oil Lotion it goes a long way.

It could be your iron because any texture of hair can get straight so it's not your hair. You may want to invest in a good ceramic iron. There's a lot of different ones, go to Folica.com and check them out. I can only suggest the maxiglide because it's the only one I've used. It is an awsome iron. My hair gets stick straight on the first glide. As far as your new growth being hard to straighten the problem may be how you are drying your hair. A lot of ladies that are stretching relaxers slick their hair back in a ponytail and a scarf so the new growth will be straight. I've seen this demonstrated in someone's fotki but I can't remember who it was, sorry. ------------- |
