What has he had done to his hair? Thinning/layering, etc? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'm growing mine out and would like to cut it like this in the near future.

Looks to me like it was grown long to close to his shoulders then they did a razor cut (holding the razor and cutting downwards through all the hair from his ears to the ends to get the layered look).  Its also slightly highlighted.
