Well for anyone that has seen my other posts you know that I'm going
for the kind of sceneish/emoish hair not going past jawline and my hair
right now is pretty much into my eyes, it is fully when I straighten
it. My friend mentioned ot me instead of waiting forever to grow it out
that long, why not try extensions? I had not given this a thought at
all before he mentioned that and then I was like hmm no I don't think
so. But, then I was talking to my friend and he was like oh I forgot to
tell you I got extensions in my hair!! Look at these pictures!! It
looked fabulous, it was pretty much amazing I have to say. I'll show
you a picture of it here if you want to see what I would want probably
it to look like or similar, maybe not as long I'm not sure. The main
question I had was could I get short extensions? Because I know a lot
of you women on here want it really really long so that is why you get
extensions, do they come in shorter lengths? That is the question I
mostly had. And then the second was where would I find a place that
does it near me? I live in some little town outside of Boston, MA like
a half hour away. We have nice salons around here, such as Marc Harris'
salon which gets best salon in MA award yearly. But, I don't think they
do extensions. Anyways, I am jsut hoping to get some more information
on it, before I get completely sold with the idea. here is the picture
by the way:
I think that is the longest I would go, and even that is kind of
stretching it for me, well actually it is my mom that would be
stretching haha. Thanks a lot girls, I appreciate it =]

any extension hair can be cut to the length u want, go to some salons and go for a consultation, and see what they say- or for that matter with all the great info on here, have your mom install some with either links or shrinks

Thanks girls =] I appreciate the replies back already haha. But, I may
already be hooked to them if you can do anything with them pretty much
haha. Can you still grow your hair out at the same time while having
extensions? Because, I naturally want to grow my hair out just for the
thrill of it, but I pretty much want my hair longer like now haha.
Luckily my hair grows pretty fast compared to most people so it really
isn't too short. How much do you think it will cost me around for
probably shorter than that length? I don't have that much money on me
right, now so I can't pay in excess of I'd say 150 =/ I've been looking
around and I see them going for 500 and up =/. I may have to wait until
I get a job which won't be for a few months and it may have even grown
into a good length before that so I'm just wondering haha. Thanks again
though! Each reply is appreciated greatly =]

DJ..if you have someone that can help you install the extensions, there are some very easy methods a DIYer can do. Then you could just go to a stylist that is experienced with cutting extensions for the cut/style!
You could check a few local salons that do extensions. That hairstyle probably wouldnt require alot of extension hair to be added, and also depending how much hair you already have it may not be that expensive.

You can always cut your extensions anyway depending on what length/style you want them.
I have two regular male clients and they look great with them.
The pic extensions look great.

I used hair extensions with shrinkies to make my pixie cut into a bob. This was my hair with the extensions (pardon the top of my head cut off):

and this was without them, so you can see just how short it was:
 (weird concentrating face)
It actually worked really well. I could still ruffle up the back while I had hair in front. Anyway, my hair continues to grow out just fine.
IMO, you'd do best finding the shortest extension hair you can (like 8"-10") because that way you'll save a ton of money. In fact ... I actually have an untouched package of Premium Too 8" wefted hair in black (the stuff from Doc Locs) leftover from that hairstyle, if you're interested ... it only cost me $7 and I used barely a quarter of the second pack :)

Actually my girlfriend could probably put them in for me. Shes probably
the best person with hair I know. She does a fabulous job on her own
hair, everyone is jealous of it haha. She was going to show me how to
style it like my friend's hair tomorrow in fact so I'll bring it up and
see what she thinks if she could or not. Where would I buy the hair
though/how much of it should I buy and what kind of hair and all of
those kinds of things. But thank you also Sammy =] Glad to hear you
girls know of other guys who do them too. DO you think though a regular
stylist would know how to cut them or would I have to go to a
professional for extensions? Thankss =]

if i were you id get a weft of hair and do glued-in wefts, eas and fast. You should place the wefts in the direction your hair will bo combed, away from any hairlines, but yes, that style is entirely doable with extensions

Yeah, DIY is also good for putting in colors without bleaching and
damaging. It's great.
With my extensions, I just wanted a few inches off the length so I just
went to whatever was open when I got out of work (it was like a super
cuts or something) and just told them that I had extensions, and what I
wanted cut. She was really good, and I don't think she had ever cut hair
with extensions before. So where you go normally would prob be fine, the
hair dresser just has to be a little more cautious!
Goodluck, like sherrie said becareful! They are fun and addicting!!!

I'm not sure if I know the DIY method, could someone please fill me in
on what it is please? And I was looking/investigating shrinkies, and
they look to be of good holding, but it looks like it requires
precision and qute some time to do. Moffpoff you look amazing with your
hair like that! Its amazing! Where do you find this protac tape and how
do I use it? By the way, I'm looking to be able to flat iron and use a
lot of products in the extensions, so I'll need something that holds
really well and won't get in the way of that. I'm also looking for long
male sides, not female sides, where you know it just happens to come
down from the top of their head and go over the side of the face, I
mean like from the side burn area that I'm growing out. To give you an
idea of what I mean, this picture( which I apologize for the
provokativeness, Andy is quite the character haha just excuse it =/):
Haha
sorry about him having no shirt on and stuff =/ But basically I'm
looking to do this with my extensions or the previous picture, so I
jsut want to make sure I can do this fairly easily and make it look
like this using a lot of products/ flat ironing/straightening them.
Thanks for all your help, trust me its really appreciated =] I'm still
just a little skeptical for some reason =/

you can get the pro-tac at http://www.shrinkies.net - www.shrinkies.net There is also a demo on her website on using the pro-tac. Really with a little help from your friend, it can be done very easily!

Protac is super easy to use. Theres a demo here:
http://www.shrinkies.net/protacdemo.htm
Just make sure your hair is squeaky clean before you put it in. I use a pre-
bonding shampoo, other people seem to be able to get away with just an
ordinary clarifying shampoo, and dont wash your hair for 2 days
afterwards to allow the glue time to cure ( v. important) and keep
conditioner well away from the tape or youll be sorry!
You say your gf is good with hair so I'm sure she can more than handle
this. If I was you, I'd get some tape and some cheap bss hair and do a trial
run to make sure you get your placement right and to see how you want
to cut it etc since its your first try, and then invest in some better quality
hair after you get it down.
Imo though, for short styles like that I've always been able to get away
with using pretty cheap hair because tangling isnt such a concern. I like
Outre for my shorter styles which I always tend to rat up and overstyle
anyway so I dont really care if the hair gets a bit rough.
You can get pro-tac from www.shrinkies.net, I cut mine in half
lengthways and it doesnt show at all.
