Subject: Ann Curry - THE HAIRCUT

I think Katie Couric summed up today best:

"They're going to have so much hair, they're not going to know what to do with it all."

Yes, Ann Curry got her gorgeous hair cut to shoulder length this morning and the hair carnage continued throughout the plaza. I didn't get the inch count of Ann's ponytail. Perhaps I was too stunned. Then she had it styled to look even shorter in some curly old-fashioned style. I'll be interested in if she's able to replicate the look. I have my doubts. Either way, it was not an improvement. I'll never look at her the same way and many will look at her as "that anchor who got her hair cut for Locks of Love," so her sainthood is preserved. (Man, do I sound bitter or what?) Ann looked excited and said hair would always grow back.

One hundred other women/girls/lemmings joined in the haircut circus -- and all got on national TV in the process.  A postal worker who hadn't had a haircut in 42 years cried throughout the ordeal but went through with it, as her kneelength hair that had been her "trademark" was cut short. I think the haircut aged her about 42 years, but that's just my opinion. Later in the show, Katie took the woman's braid, which was similar to her own color, and had it attached temporarily to her own hair. Katie would make a mighty fine looking longhaired lady!

They showed a school gymnasium filled with 78 more kids waiting for haircuts, further expanding the media event. One of the girls said she organized the "Locks of Love Blowout" because Ann Curry was cutting her hair. Katie made her comment that they wouldn't know what to do with all the hair. I know she meant it as an off-handed joke, but it sure echoes what I've been saying. Ann called them a "great bunch of kids." What about the kids who declined -- if there were any? Hopefully, they don't get the cold shoulder from their classmates.

Ann's efforts spawned a "Bagels and Lox for Hair" in North Carolina. I guess haircuts make good television.

Speaking of declining, Natalie Morales declined to cut her hair when asked by Al Roker, saying she wasn't ready for that yet. (Thank you, Natalie.)

You've got to give NBC producers credit. They played this out for all it was worth and I'm sure it will be reflected in the ratings. They even had special T-shirts made for the "event."

I missed the first half hour of the show, but in the 2 1/2 hours I have watched so far, they showed only two girls who benefited from wigs from Locks of Love -- and one was the daughter of LoL's founder. You had to feel for the kids, of course, but I thought there would be a parade of ill children in need of wigs -- much like the Jerry's Kids that appear on stage during his telethons. It sure would have demonstrated more of a NEED. For the record, the LoL founder said they've provided hair pieces for 2,000 children. She said this was the single biggest hair donation day in the group's history.

Of course, all of this went against Ann's own commentary that the best donations are done without fanfare. Yet, with about 35 minutes left in the show, Ann turned to the crowd behind her and said, "Is this great?" In the end, I guess the answer to that question depends on your taste.

Any pictures of the "new look" Ann? From what you say, Kramer, she didn't go as short as some people feared--and her comments about hair growing back, sounds like she might even grow it again.

OK...yep...doesn't look too good. Probably be better straight to the shoulders. At least she didn't go back to the pixie.

Yeah she would be better off to straighten it then go curly.  As sad as it is she let it go, their is some hope for it.  Atleast like fatmoogas said, she didn't go back to that dreaded pixie.  Hopefully after awhile she will let it go below her shoulders.   I hope NBC is happy now though that they got their precious ratings.

She still looked pretty good after the chop. It was the styling that really saw things take a turn for the worse.

Well there was one thing if anyone saw it she was trying to hold back the tears. Now for someone to cut thier short and not liking it. Her face didn't show happyness but something else. I could be wrong but then again. Watch the video and make your call. I have to say the cut kate made was better then the style. I guess you can blame the French. I'm not picking on all the French. Please I don't want to lose my head. LOL.

That might be the reason she might consider growing it back out a little longer in the coming months.    Anyways, I guess its time to put a closure on Ann as the deed has been done and wait and see how she looks through the summer and this fall.   It appears to me that Katie is growing hers some, so thats something to look forward to.

What a wonderful day yesterday was!!!

The Today Show should be nominated for an emmy for their public service they performed!

Ann looks great, and the other donators looked great as well.  Especially the gal who got rid of her 55" mullet.

The Locks of Love founder should be extremely proud of what she accomplished. More than 200 ponytails were cut yesterday, and that will make approximatley 20 wigs.

What a glorious day!

The new style is puffier than I care for but I love the curly back. She seems to wear her hair off the face alot and behind her ears so maybe that was the look the stylist was going for.

It's not that bad of a look just puffier at the top than usual.

I hope those who are almost crying over Ann's cut will be ok? lol, life after ann's cut,;)

I thought the curl to the short cut looks cute. But hey, I wish my hair was a bit wavy too, Ann can have my straight hair!!!;)

Ann is a Human Being with Feelings like all of us, and she probably wanted a big change, Good for her, maybe not You, but You're not Ann,...You have to be yourself. Besides Ann isn't a doll, or clay You can mold! Thanks,...

I like retro, but not on her-- she's old enough that it looks more "stuck in a time warp" :-P .  Hopefully she'll do something better with it on her own.  I could personally hope something short (was a bit disappointed it was still long after the cut), but it's Ann's hair, and her decision.  *shrugs*

If she seemed nervous during the cut, it could have something to do with, oh, I dunno, the fact it was being done by an amateur?  And Katie was even more nervous doing it than Ann was letting Katie do it, so that doesn't exactly inspire confidence!

I was talking about the after cut. Heck she was makeing Jokes when Kate was cutting it but after she look like she was going to cry. That's all. Now did she have sceond thoughs? I don't know. One thing is for sure most people I know that have gone from long to short don't cry. That's all.

Too true.  Many short cuts tend to age.

Well, Ann was back on the Today show this morning with her final
style, and I'm sure it will generate some mixed opinions. It's more or
less one length, center parted, goes about to her chin, flat on top and
sort of puffs out on the bottom, so it's sort of shaped like an egg.
There also appear to be some short, random hairs that jut out just
below that along the neck for no reason I can figure.

More than anything, this style is just mystifying to me. After all the
hype and speculation, all the possible options, she seems to have
gone with a style that doesn't look particularly flattering (IMHO), isn't
really trendy (no bangs, no layers), is somewhat plain, and (oy vey)
continues, even at this short length, to encourage her to tuck one
side behind her ear.

I'm already waiting for the next style...

It's a lot shorter than I thought it would be, that's for sure. I figure longhair lovers like myself will hate it; shorthair lovers will love it. Fortunately for Ann, she has a pretty face.

What is MOST important is how Ann likes it...as a busy mom, I'm sure she finds it a lot easier, which is probably why she had it short before she grew it out!

I think it looks nice, and will grow out nicely...

I think it looks OK--better than the curly style on the day of the cut. Are we sure she wants to grow it out? It might start inching shorter instead.

It's definitly better than the day of cut. I like it not short yet not to long but still a few different things with it. As for longer or shorter  who knows but Ann. I do think she might go a little longer, shoulders possibly but no more than that.

Gaw-aw-aw-lee, Miss Ann, as Gomer Pyle might say!

She now looks her age, an attractive 50 year old, instead of the stunning, sensuous 35 she was last week. An absolutely pointless makeover. The chances of me ever intentionally tuning in Today or Dateline again is zero. I must say, though, her magnificent hair was tres enjoyable while it lasted. Blessings, Bob

I haven't been getting involved in this discussion but I'll respond to this.

I think after the circus that this caused and her own feelings that she expressed on being part of the circus I have doubts that she'll grow much. If her hair starts getting even the slightest bit longer someone is going to be asking if she is growing it for another donation. I don't think she wants to do this anytime soon.

As for the cut, I agree that they could have done better.

But as I often say, I could be wrong.

I stumbled upon a link to some photos of Ann's glorious past. I post them here not necessarily for comparison purposes, but as a tribute to wonderful days gone by... or something like that.

Not for typographical errors.

So then why does this board exist?  From the start it's always been a place to gossip about celebs, without regard to their feelings.  Cruel, at times?  Maybe so, but that's just the way it is.

Speculation, perhaps best expressed within the "hair politics" forum.  Generally speaking and in my opinion and observation, long and short hairstyles both span a wide spectrum of occupations.

In my personal opinion, what happened on the TODAY show was a tragedy. First, Locks of Love obtains hair to SELL, not to make into wigs. As a news program, the TODAY show should report the facts. Second, Ann Curry is a highly visible role model for young women, and this show set a very poor example of what in my view amounts to self-mutilation.

SELF_MUTILATION???  Cutting one's hair is self-mutilation???  Give me a friggin' break.

Ha-ROOOMPH! Nothing wrong with that haircut. As Kramer said, she can
pull off any style, especially short.
