Right now my hair is nothing but breakage! Plus there are split ends from the past 13 years of my life (a sisscors NEVER touched my hair....) Sooo, I'm gonna cut off about 2 inches of my hair and have it braided. Hopefully it will grow in healthy during the summer but, this hair has got to go....plus it have relaxer on it (which I though had all broken off).

I haven't told anyone (except for my mommy and I think my sister). I won't tell anyone because they will be like "why would you do that for" and I right now NEED this hair off so it can be healthy....any trimming methods??

Oh, God, PLEASE have your hair trimmed!

You've NEVER had a trim? WOW!

My mother has the same problem. The back of her hair is shorter than the sides/front because she only "trims" the front (not enough for it to matter) and is above her shoulders. She's afraid to have it professionally trimmed.

She says she's trying to "grow it out", but the entire back is nothing but split ends. I've tried and tried and tried and tried to talk her into getting a really good trim, but she REFUSES. Her hair is that length (above the shoulders) and she hasn't had a haircut since before I was born, and I'm 31! I keep telling her that I'm willing to pay for it and for a wig to cover it if she doesn't like it....but, NOOOOOOOOOO.

I don't have a fear of trims or even more than trims. My hair has been "buzzed" at least 3 times (I think maybe 4) and it's always grown back to my shoulders within a year and a half. This is the first time I've let it grow this long. I'm getting a trim tomorrow because I'm getting a touch-up and I'm sure I need a trim.

Anyways, that was a lot of information......but the bottom line is: GET A TRIM!

If thats what you feel you need to do then do it. It doesnt make sense to hold on to damaged split ends, so a small cut wouldnt hurt. Also you may wanna do a protein treatment to help strengthen your hair and to stop the breakage. Good Luck!

Oh yes. I think it is time for a trim.

I don't really know any trimming methods for your length. I just wanted to tell you you are on the right path with this trim idea.

I think you should trim also.  It will help your hair a lot.  I don't know of any trimming methods either, sorry.  Do you think your mom will let you get it professionally done?

Thank you, ladies! I never trimmed my hair but my mom trims my sisters hair (because she has a relaxer) and her hair is longer than mine. I think my hair can be so much thicker (and healthy) if I got a sisscors. It's not Relaxed ends on my hair, it's heat damage (my hair lost all it's kink due to straightning/ blowdryer) and I think my hair will thrive (and not break) if I trimmed.

I'm really not sure if she'll (my mom) let me get it trimmed professionally...I'll ask her when she gets home but I was just looking up Motowngirl.com and they have some trimming methods....Because of all this damage, I'm afraid to RELAX or Straighten (pressing comb,  flat iron, krimper *maybe*) my hair...=(

YOu can put your hair in braids or twists and trims the ends off...Usually the damaged section of a braid/twist is alot thinner.

Ok, I think I'm gonna try that instead of taking a big chunk. Should I trim while my hair is wet or dry?

I would suggest going to Great Clips or SuperCuts or Fantastic Sams. They're usually really cheap for just a trim (usually under $25 and INCLUDES a wash and blow dry). Be sure to have a good 15 minute talk with them regarding just how much you want trimmed. They may want to trim off all of the damage at once, but if that isn't what you want, LET THEM KNOW!

I had a touch-up/trim today. I'm happy to say that this is only the SECOND time I've had a trim in over a year, and my ends were so healthy that she only had to "dust" the ends!

Those 3 places are chains, so there should be at least probably one of each somewhere in New York. Just do a little internet search. I plan on going to great clips ( http://www.greatclips.com - www.greatclips.com ) when I just need a trim, to avoid paying extra for salon services.

Deexox...if your hair is drastically 2 different textures when it is wet then I would trim the damage off when it is wet.

What you might want to do is trim small amounts at a time. Put your hair in braids/twists and then attempt to trim off equal amounts on each braid. Do this for a few months and  you should have all of the damage gone.
