Well, I did my first full take-down last night, after wearing Elite Remy with
Protac tape for five weeks. I could have lasted another week had I placed
the wefts a bit higher and had not been messing with the tapes the last
few weeks trying to figure out when to take them down.

It was 11:45 when I decided I couldn't wait a moment longer to see if I
was going to be able to get these things out of my hair. I was nervous
about the bottom tapes because they had gotten pretty tacky. I used
Pantene conditioner and Neutrogena Body Oil and had the wefts out in
about 40 minutes. They came out pretty easily with some patience and
busy fingers slowly working the hair off the tapes. My only concern was
that it seemed like a lot of my own hair came out, as well. I washed and
blowdried my own hair (now it's about 1:00 AM) and have to say that I
didn't see any loss in volume. I'm guessing what I saw go down the drain
was mostly the normal hair I'd lose that had been caught up in the tapes
and extensions. I hope.

I was going to head off to bed and clean the wefts in the morning, but I
started thinking about all the trouble some have had getting them clean
and just had to see if I could get the tape off one of the lower ones. I
tried a few things, but soaking a few minutes in olive oil seemed to be the
easiest way to peel large chunks of tape off the weft. By 1:30 I had one of
the long wefts completely free of tape, but it was still a sticky mess. I
washed it with clarifying shampoo and the hair and weft were still very
sticky. Then I sprayed the weft with an aerosol product called Lift Off,
which is an adhesive remover. This seemed to get most of the gunk right
off. Crazy me, I decided I wanted to clean all the wefts right then. I had
them all hanging to dry by 3:45 AM.

This morning I brushed out the hair and discovered that it was sticky and
stiff. I coated the hair and wefts with cornstarch baby powder, brushed
them with a boar bristle brush, and washed them again. This turned out
to be miraculous. Now they're clean and soft and waiting to be installed
again tomorrow.

For my next removal, I'm going to 1) start earlier; 2) watch a movie and
be even more patient taking them out of my hair; 3) use the Lift Off to get
the tapes off the weft; and 4) plan on the cornstarch treatment and a
second wash before reinstalling.

This process took a LONG time! For the future, now that I know what to
expect, I can have the wefts clean and ready for reinstallation in less than
two hours, which isn't bad for every six weeks. As long as I don't end up
with hair loss that makes me look like a c*ckatoo with a nervous
condition, I can say I'm really happy overall with my Protac experience so
far.

(Too funny that the message board program puts an asterisk in
"c*ckatoo"!)

Great! Yeah, the shedding was most likely your normal shedded hair that
got stuck in there. Every extesion type I do I get that. It's kind of scary
sometimes!!

i did a removal yesturday on one of my clients who we installed three double wefts two mths ago!

heres what i did

first i took a cotton ball saturated with shrinkies oil, i smushed the cotton ball with oil on the tape and even poured some more on the tape.

i then took a 5 min break.

i took my ratail comb, used the metal end, gently slide it under the top layer of her hair and went down the whole top side, then i peeled the tape completely off. that was it! it came out like Buttah!

i knew the hair was just washed by client and it was going to be reinstalled immediately so i wasnt worried about the top of the weft being tacky, in fact i think it adds some stick!

i reapplied all the hair back in after i shampooed, colored and dryed her hair.

she was stoked. the removal and reinstall took less then one hr!

oh, after i shampooed and colored and shampooed again to get the color out, i did notice her hair still had some tape gummy residue, i took some powder on my comb, then ran it through her hair and whooo laaa, it was GONE!!!

Tangles, did you shampoo the orange oil off the wefts before you re-
installed?

no i didnt, it was still real tacky

hrm interesting.
I felt like I had to at least get all the oil out of the wefts, in not the stickiness
(which i think would be virtually impossible to get rid of anyway) because I
thought maybe it would break down the new tape from the inside out if I
didnt.
Good to know I dont have to!

I haven't been careful about cleaning the oil off my wefts before reinstalling, and they've always been very secure in the tape.
