My hair was dyed blue/black months ago, and I want to redye it with L'Oreal Color Works Red dye.

My natural hair color is very dark brown almost black. The dye is grown out until just above my ears from there down it is just faded but still there. My hair is short and spikey so it is not much longer below my ears. Here is a picture of me so you can see. It is an older one when the dye was freshly done, it is much more faded now. Same cut though.

So if I use this hair dye on top of my hair without doing anything else to it, what will happen? Will there be a definately line where it is grown out? Will there be a gradual fade? will it look awful? I am all for weird hairdo and colorings and combinations but I am just wondering if it will look stupid?

If I try it and it does look dumb I have a black dye I can just use, but I guess that is my other question...can I use the black dye right away or will that ruin my hair?

Please help!
I am new, thanks!

Strand test to see what will happen.

For an even look, if most of the color is grown out, then go for a bit shorter cut to get the rest of the black out, or wait a few more months until it's all grown out.

You could also Colorfix just the ends, but the color won't be the same, at least I don't think it will.

Again a strand test will help and will save you from dyeing and redyeing.

FYI, you can dye right away after you dye, as long as your scalp can take it.

Thanks. I just went ahead with it so we'll see.
Ya I didn't think of just trimming it to the color, of course!

Well, we'll see, maybe it'll be interesting.

My scalp can probably handle dying on top of this if it doesn't work out right. I don't dye too often so my scalp is pretty tough.

Are you going for a vibrant red?
