Ok I have a friend who wants me to do extensions on her, the problem is
that her hair is thinning on the top (She was sick a few years ago, it fell out and never grew back) It is strong and she isn't losing it anymore, but it's very fine and thin at the top. Its not to the point that it really looks as though she's going bald but its certainly thin enough that I wouldnt be able to go very far up without the extensions showing. She doesn't really want to go with a closer, but I was thinking perhaps a skin weft might work well? What do you guys think? I have never seen one in person so I don't know how invisible they really are. Also, I've read all the threads on here about them but it seems we've never really reached a conclusion on where is a good place to get them from where the quality is decent. Anyway, I'm hoping someone who has experience with them might be able to jump in and tell me if they think the skin weft would be less visible under thinning hair than a regular weft. Also, did anyone ever test out that product called Couvre? Perhaps she could use something like that to help cover the joins after we do the install as well. Any opinions or insight would be most welcome! |

I don't know about the skin wefts, but I've been using Couvre to cover the
white skin areas in the upper back of my hair where my own hair is thin, where whatever extension method I use tends to show. What I've found with the Couvre is that my white scalp shows through hardly at all, making the extensions much less obvious. It also seems to thicken the hair a bit, making it easier to get my hair to cover the bonds. Also, I just today put silicon microrings across that area in the back at the top of my Protac tapes and wefts. They seem to be less visible than the tape/wefts, although I still have to do a little backcombing and spraying to be sure they stay covered. I think I like having individual strands high up back there because they project out of my head more naturally, so are less flat than the tape, allowing me to get more volume for better coverage. ------------- Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE! |

| Would your friend be willing to wear a top peice? Something that's the size of your hand and has a transparant weft with clips? I've seen these on many people and they're completely undectable. I've even seen people wearing them in the wind and you totally don't see anything. Some people wear that and then a weft or two. |

Its kind of a tricky situation Malibu, she's never said 'look, I know my hair
is thinning on top' she always just says she wants fuller hair that looks nice and healthy, so I don't want to be the friend that says 'look, we need to put some sort of closer at the top' so I'm hoping that the skin weft can save me by being almost undetectable! :) I e mailed Mr Lui and got his price list etc and his prices are good but he has a minimum order of 10. There are two other companies that I'm waiting on a response from as well. I'm just hoping that someone can jump in and tell me what a skin weft looks like in real life so I can decide whether to even go this route. Maybe someone has a leftover piece I can buy from them even...? That is good to know about the Couvre Kristie, I will probably get some of that to help her cover the install, whichever method we go with :) |

That's a tricky situation..... Well, all I can say is that if I were her I would want something to cover it. Not everyone knows how to go about getting hair and she knows that you can help. The top peices they make look good. I know it's like vudoo to wear a "tupee" but it so NOT a tupee at all. I got my weft from this place that also sells the top peices. They're supposed to last at least two years. The lady in these pictures is wearing a top peice. and two wefts (all clip-ins) http://www.dailyceleb.com/production/index.php?view=event& amp;eid=3048 The model got her pre-made peices from here. This is where I got my clip-in weft. http://www.topsecrethair.com/ I'm not promoting this company, it's just the only one that I know of that has it. I'm sure you can find them elsewhere. Anyway, I'm really happy with the one weft that goes from ear to ear with four clips. With that said, next time I'll make my own since it's less $$ |

Hi Dune! In my experience with skin wefts or seamless for thin hair, I would not recommend. I don't know what degree of thinning your friend is, but it sounds like it's a concern, so therefore I ask you to consider Invisible hair skin graft or any hair grafting system. The hair piece top, someone metioned works fine too since it attaches to both hair and scalp. The reason why skin wefts or seamless is not a good solution for thin hair is b/c the glue/bond used is super strong which adds stress to the thin, fragile natural growing hair, which when used long term, will rip out the fragile hair. Also the section is much wider than fusion thin-type extensions. The best advice I can tell you is to look at the hair section density taken. If the natural hair density covers enough of the seamless/skin weft, then you can extend that section. This even ratio is for many hair extensions used in the market today. The ratio of natural hair to the ratio of extened hair must equal to support weight. Think of constructing a tall skyscraper. Just imagine having a thin stick supporting a wide building... If I'm the "someone" you're referring to, the top peice does not attach to the scalp. It only clips onto the hair. |
