Ok, so I bought some BSS hair, #613, and I wanted to make it a little
darker, a little more caramel-y. So I cut the wefts into 4 pieces. I dyed 1
part dark brown to match my elite wefts, and the other part I wanted to
dye the caramel color.

So the brown took really well. The caramel color, that was another story.
It came out like purple-ish (like gsmilie had but not so white) and it won't
really wash out.

So I'm wondering if it's because of some bleach or something used?
Should I try to use toner to get it to a shade I want?

Why did the brown take and not the lighter brown? Did that one have
bleach in the dye or something??

that is the main problem i have with ever trying to color, or bleach extension hair, we really dont know what the heck they use and treat it with, my assumption is the dark brown had just nuteral pigment in it, the carmel must of had some voilet in it and it picked up the undertones not the color.

That's the consequence of not using a filler to prepare the hair to receive the new color.....

I used a filler. I don't know why it turned out like this. I tried doing a color
depositing temporary color to another section, it turned bright orange!!
I guess I'm not doing the whole highlight thing after all!!!

It's always a sience experiment when I color hair!!

Are you saying that you don't want to use the purple and orange hair?  I have some lavender I can send you, you could have a whole rainbow in your head!!

I don't know if I can explain properly, but it's sort of something that you
put on the hair to enable it to take color properly and evenly. Now sure
how it works, just know what it does!

I have a great little book about how to color your own hair called
"Hairdos, Hair Don'ts" by Mary Ann Proulx. She says:

Color fillers are used to equalize porosity and to deposit a base color
prior to application of a tint. Color fillers are applied to deposit pigment
to lightened or faded hair and ends and to provide fill for porous areas in
the hair during tinting. It helps to ensure a uniform color throughout the
hair shaft.

Color fillers are commonly used in two situations: (1) when darkening
hair which has been previously lightened with hair tint, and (2) when
previously colored ends or mid-shafts have been altered by the effects of
the sun, chlorine, a perm, etc.
