I'm thinking of getting a weave to wear for a while and just plait my hair underneath.  I was wondering is wigs ok to wear for a while?  If anyone wear wigs, can you tell me your experience with them.  Did your hair grow or thin out?  Thanks for any information you can give me that you've experienced or heard about them.

I wore a wig when I was pregnant because I was all natural and didn't have time to do my hair due to excessive sleep. I loved it. I would wash it once a week and plait it and put it under the wig. No manipulation, no damaging, etc., and it took all of 2 minutes to do my hair before work.

NEVER buy a wig from a catalog, always buy in person. Those gorgeous wigs may not look right on you, no matter how you like the style. It took me over 40 minutes to find a wig that was good for me: wavy/curly texture and shoulder length. Textured looks usually look more natural than straight/shiny hair. Also, I tend to go more towards off black/brown because very black looks too artificial.

Wigs are great for growing out hair.

Make sure that you're keeping up your own hair underneath, though.  I've heard horror stories from people who just put the wig on for a long period of time and didn't bother to detangle or comb their hair...only to find at a later point that their hair was hopelessly tangled and had to be cut off.

Wigs are great...I have a wig that I wear on the weekends.  It took me months to find the perfect wig...I went to a shop that allow you to try on the wigs with a head covering under it and after I purchased it I washed it. Mine has spiral curls with highlights and it looks good.  Make sure you pay attention to your edges because I have heard of people damaging the edges...but it should work for you.

There are also wigs that sew are sew on.  You braid your hair around the edges and then sew it there. I haven't tried them but I have seen them on people and they look great but never heard about the post wig problems, if there are any.

I wear wigs sometimes with my hair braided underneath. My hasn't grown thin.. yet. I hope it doesn't.

I like how it keep my head warm, since it is freezing outside.

I've worn my human hair wigs for 1 year now and they are great.

I take mine in to the Wig place and let them shampoo and reshape it for $20 bucks.  Wigs really saves on the wear and tear of your own hair.

Girl, I got about 4 different wigs for all my many different moods plus a phony pony!  I'll have to finish updating my fotki with all my wigs, I have fun wearing them.  But ditto on getting a cap that is safe on your hairline.  I take my wig off every nite and moisturize and comb my own hair.  It's great for me because I'm transitioning.
