Need some help here. I just found out that my mother has a very serious form of cancer and will be going through many months of chemo. Do you need to order a very good wig ahead of time? Where should I look for a really nice wig for her? She has short, black, wavy hair. Thanks so much. |

Actually i think i heard
somewhere that Raquel Welch's wigs are really good. Samantha(Kim
Catrall)wore them on SATC. I hope I helped! they're also discounted at awigxpress.com! |

Hi Kimbearly, I deal with this all the time since I also do hair replacement. I would recommend that you mom get a custom cranial prosthesis. It takes about 8-10 weeks to have this made, so I'd get it going as soon as possible. I just had a woman come in yesterday and I took measurements and made a mold to make her a wig. She also is starting chemo soon. A custom prosthesis is way better than any store bought wig because it's customized to fit the person, to have the color, texture and density to your specification. However this all comes with a price. Custom prosthesis run anyway from $800-2000, but sometimes insurance companies will pay for it if the doctor gives a prescription for 'cranial prosthesis'. The insurance will not pay for a 'wig', but they will pay for a cranial prosthesis, if that's what the doctor specifically orders. Good luck to you and your mom. I know how you feel. My sister (she's better now) went through chemo for breast cancer and had to wear a wig. Tell you mom to go to a nice salon, they can custom order a wig that will fit her head perfect. My sister waited till they got the wig in, then had the salon shave her head since her hair had started falling out. They didn't let her see the shaving process, since it's kind of emotional. They placed the wig on and then let her see herself. It's better if she gets to see herself without hair in the privacy of her own home than at a salon with strangers around.

Thank you so very much for your thoughts and prayers since we need all we can get at this point. My mother has pancreatic cancer and we are hoping that are able to do a wipple operation this Friday the 31st. I will talk to her doctor about writing a script.(thank you metalgirl). I want to make whatever time she has left with us as beautiful as possible. For me I am glad I have this board since it really helps keep my mind off the sadness for a bit. ------------- |

Oh, I just remembered...when I went to cosmo school in NY.....there was a
girl who I was friends with and after about 3 months she told me her hair was a wig.....I was so shocked!...It was the best looking wig I ever saw and I can usually spot them a mile off....so natural looking and it was all European hair.....it *was* a Jacquelyn Wig.....totally forgot about that. Anyway, hope you find something nice for your mum....I know how important that is to feel good about your hair when going through something like that. My girlfriend had cancer and the wig she ended up getting totally lifted her spirits...I'll never forget her face when she had it fitted....she was beaming. |

| there are front lace wigs and full lace wigs which are very comfortable and look vey natural you can't even tell its a wig.. they are custom made, and there are many websites that offer them, the price range is high for some.. like hair llusions which makes these wigs for the stars, like tyra banks wears one, and beyonce you probably didn't even know it was a wig.. they cost thousands..but there are some sites that aren't quite as expensive and she would be happy with b/c its comfortable and not heavy and hot like other wigs.. |
