ok, my shoulder length yukky thin hair had been wearing clipins (loved)..but i decided to try microrings/links. i am totally DIY and even with reading all about extensions im learning more from actually doing/wearing the extensions.
so, the facts: it took me an estimated 4hours, with interruptions, and the time divided up over three days(i just wore my hair clipped up to work each day until i got it all done). my real hair is thin, and apparently my head too small or something to get in the 200-300 strands i had read is the average for strand by strand...im wearing a little over 100. this is prebonded hair from glamorhair.com in light golden blonde with a few pale golden blondes around my face. at the end i decided it needed something more, and i added some strawberry blonde strands throughout(only about 10 or so)
what i had to learn after the fact (even though i thought i was a know-it-all): DO put your hair in a pony tail or two to sleep in, sleep has been difficult, but sleeping on a contoured foam pillow did help(it was my husband's but he graciously let me use it, for now :) ), i have the 'special extension brush' but i still got carried away brushing too hard ( no wonder my real hair is a mess!) and i accidently yanked two strands out (yes with my real hair!) sooooo...be gentle. Finally, brush gently and often....this hair hasnt been bad tangly(its been shampooed twice now) but one day of errands, working out in the yard, going to the gym, i went all day without brushing(and it wasnt in a ponytail as it should have been-but i wanted to showoff)...at the end of the day i had a nice small knot around the middle of three strands, conditioner did not help so those had to be cut off. But, it did add in nicely with my layered look, thank goodness! I've put leave in conditioner on the ends every day and it helps stay pretty smooth.....so, here's my head:
clip-ins
yuk!-getting started after-the strawberry doesnt showup so well here!
this is before i added strawberry strands
layers, so the hair looks a little more 'torn up', like my real hair!...this is before curling, curling makes better!
