I just wanted to say hello and that Im new to this group. I was surfing the net and found the group and decided to join. Let me introduce myself. Im 25 married female of two boys ages 9yrsold and 11months. Im married to a wonderful guy. Anyway  Im muslimah, move to Canada over ayear ago from Texas. Ive been natural for almost 8years now. Ive used chemicals in the past like pressncurl and Ive had a perm. I hated it. I had it cut off and Ive never looked back sense. I will never but chemicals or heat in my hair again. (Never) I cut my hair over ayear ago after i had my baby and before i became muslim(im a convert) now its grown back its about shoulder length again and its very thick and curly.. Im wanting to grow it back out longer probally tail length or a long as it will grow. I also want to learn how to braid my own hair so i dont have  to get other people to do it. I really dont like alot of people in my hair so thats why im learning. I wanted to know does any of you know any braid videos thats good for a beginner. I can braid hair but not good enough for it to last a month. I need to work on my technique of making the braids stay tight enough and not come on done. I really dont have a routine yet other than wash my hair with conditoner because i dont use shampoo 1once a week then i do a hot oil treatment. and after it drys natural i braid it untill the next wash. Any suggestions would be helpful because im clueless.

Hi, welcome to the site!

Hmm are you looking for extensitions when you speak of braids lasting longer than a month?  The site... http://www.growafrohairlong.com - www.growafrohairlong.com has a 20 minute video you can watch on your computer. She has  close up shots on how to put braid extensitions in. Also, the site teaches you how to clean them while you have them in.

Welcome Muslimah!

I'm learning to braid myself also but I don't think I'll keep it in a month.  I'm happy with just a few days in between washes.  However I will be having some surgery soon so I'd really like to get up to speed with braiding so that I don't have to deal with my hair for a week.

Hi Mama

Welcome to the board I am also from Texas but live in Nebraska now.  My name is Tiffany 21 married 3 years and I have two boys also, one will be 1 in April and one will be 2 in June.

I would also recommend you go to http://www.growafrohairlong.com - www.growafrohairlong.com   I am not natural but it has really helped out with how to wash my hair while avoiding to many tangles.  It also has the video that Cmesweet mentioned that shows you how to do your own individual braid extentions.  I did them last year and they came out great.  With alittle practice you will be a pro a braiding your own hair.  Pretty soon people are going to be asking you to do theirs.

Good luck to you.
