Hey!

I have decided to try the whole protac thing and have some on order.

I normally just use shrink*** for my installs but find that with my thin hair it is sometimes quite a task to conceal them and get a nice amount of volume.  So, I decided to give the protacs a whirl.

Meanwhile, while I am waiting for them to come, I wanted to see if this would hide in my hair better.  I had some wefted human hair at my house that was never used and decided to try that.  (I still have shirnk*** in but decided to try these in a couple places where they aren't.) Anyhow, since I didn't have Protac I decided to install them with just liquid gold.  I just took a couple small sections of my natural hair and cut of a weft of hair that matched in length.  Then, I coated it with a little LG along the weft and pressed it onto my natural hair.

I didn't apply it to my scalp, just as far up as I could put it.  My only concern was, after doing this, was Is it ok to use the liquid gold like this and what will make them come out?  Will Amm's remover work or will I have a mini disaster on my hands?

Aside from my worries, I love it!  THey do conceal much better and feel like they are really holding in place well!  Not to mention with just a couple small wefted pieces, I have a TON more volume then I had with my WHOLE shrink*** install!

Just wanted to ask and share!

Yeah, isn't it amazing? Wefts are so awesome for my hair, volume, and
blends so much better for me! Anyways, the LG might come out using
Amms remover, not sure, if not, you just dab a little acetone on the area.
You should have no problem getting it out.

Ok, thanks!  I started to worry afterwords when I realized how well they adhered to my hair, lol.

But, I do LOVE them so far!  It feels even better then the shrink***! I feel like I have so much more control of them too, they just seem as if they stay in place a million times better then anything else!!

When you say acetone (forgive me if this is dumb) but do you mean the acetone nail polish remover?  I know there is the non-acetone and the nail polish remover that is acetone.  Is that what you would use??

Hello!

The Orange oil remover works great for Liquid Gold. I have used it for removing a lg install and it worked very well. Fab stuff!

Just be patient with your removal of LG- it will take a bit of time for the remover to break down the glue- I suggest you spray it on and leave it on for a little while. Then slowly try and pull/slide the weft down and up off your hair. If it does not work, spray some more remover and let it sit on it for a while longer. Use a fine tooth comb to help get out any gummy glue residue- again- it takes some time. Sometimes heating (low heat setting) the weft a little bit with a curling iron as you try to remove it will help as well.

When not using clips ins, I used to wear the LG installs just like you have in your hair now. Works great! most of the bonds would last about two-three weeks before the ends would begin to pull up a bit. Then I would just "touch up" with a bit more LG and get a few more weeks out of them.

I agree wiht you about the strand-by strand methods- I can never seem to get the fullness I need (not until my hair grows a bit longer) unless I use wefts. The hair seems to fall more naturally with the strand by strand- but I need a lot of thickness to avoid the "mushroom" look. I have thick hair. Generally wear 6 oz or so...

I normally either wear clip ins, LG installs or- as of very recently- protac. So far I love the protac strips- it has been two weeks now and only one strip (lowest/bottom strip on the back of my head) slipped and had to be temporarily fixed with a little LG.

Good luck! I look forward to hearing how the protac works for you. =)

why would wefts give more thickness than strand by strand?

Pink, I have used the orange oil remover AND acetone.  Acetone BY FAR works better.  With the orange oil you have to wait and work it in, and apply more, and wait more, and be very patient because it's hard to get out.  With acetone, you just pour some over the bond, maybe give it a little press with your finger to make sure its completely saturated, and it slides right out, no tugging, no pulling, no waiting!   You probably could use nail polish remover because it is mostly acetone, but I don't know as I have never tried it.  I go to the beauty supply store and buy 100% pure acetone.  It's no more expensive than nail polish remover.  I wouldn't use non-acetone nail polish remover though.  My guess is that it wouldn't work because it lacks the acetone!

Oh yes!  I forgot one thing Pink!  When your Pro-Tac arrives, use acetone to remove that as well!  They slide out like a dream!  I have also used to orange Oil to remove ProTac, but it turns it into a gooey slimy mess that's hard to get out of your own hair and the weft.  Acetone is awesome!

Lynn for me personally, since my hair is fine and thin its hard to attach enough strands to get the fullness I want. I would have to use very very thin strands of my own hair attached to the extension hair to get the fullness/volume that I like. With wefts methods you can double up the wefts to get more thickness.

pinkparadise, I agree with bird...acetone is so much easier for removal. Any beauty supply store carries professional acetone in the acrylic nail supplies area.

I read in the extension 101 section that you can pretip with the LG.  Does it get stringy when you heat it with the wand when applying to the hair?  Or is it easier to just tip and apply immediately?  Im buying some today and I have the Pro 10 wefts.

Thanks.  I stumbled onto this site and i have to say that I LOVE IT!!

All this info is brill - i was just about to ask what method is best to remove bonding/pro-flex tape.  I have lots of acetone in as i used to have extensions bonded with glue so had to stock up.  Can anyone tell me though, is it ok to just use the pro-flex tape or do you think LG is best to keep them in?

Thanks

Pro-tac tape alone holds wonderful. I wouldnt recommend using LG with pro-tac. I tried that once and had a really difficult time getting the tape/glue combo out of my hair. Liquid gold removes well with acetone...and Pro-Tac removes easily with acetone. But in MY hair, something about that combo, didnt remove easily at all.

vykky...the LG doesnt work well for individual extensions. Messy, flaky doesnt make a nice neat bond and wont hold up for long. The LG is great for pretipping for the purpose of applying with shrinks or links.

I am using ProTac/Liquid Gold combo in my hair.  I can't use ProTac alone because the top row of the tape shows through.  And I'm not using Liquid Gold alone, because for some reason my bottom rows come out at first wash.  So here's what I do.  Split the ProTac in half and apply it to ONE side of the weft.  Stick that to my hair (this will be the underide of the bond).  Then I put Liquid Gold on top of the weft (just on the stitching) and pull my own hair over that.  I personally don't have any problems getting that out of my hair.  Acetone makes it all slip right out.

Sherrie, did you put LG on the tape itself?

Posted By: sherrie215

yep... bird I did! When the hair started to lift off the top row making the tape visable I got the bright idea to just glue it back down to the tape. When it came time to remove I used acetone...the wefts slipped right out leaving the tape and LG in my hair. It was a b!tch to get out...like it was CEMENTED in! LOL (good hold...maybe too good)

Now I use the protac for all of my lower rows and then I use LG only for my top row!

I like your idea though...brilliant, I may try that!

Sherrie... Ahh, thanks.  I didnt know that about LG. Ive only used it for putting in tracks.  Now im glad i couldnt find any shops open today.

Well, i have $75 worth of hair that i need to figure out how to get onto my daughter's head.  Ive never used the links or shrikies before.  They seem like they would stick out, especially around the crown.  Is that the case?

I'm not sure how many weeks you can wear it because I change mine every 3 weeks.  I wash every few days

I've been doing a similar thing on my top tracks with Protac and Chrissy
V. Neither one alone seemed to hold perfectly, and just using Chrissy V
was messy. I now have 3/4 of a Protac tape in on the top, with the uncut
half on the bottom and the smaller piece on the top where it tends to
show more. I layered a little hair onto the tape. Then I squirted a bunch
of Chrissy V over the tape, layered a little more hair into it and zapped it
with the blowdryer. It has held perfectly and the Chrissy V (in dark brown)
covers up the white shiny tape pretty well. I've removed this combo once
with acetone and it was a breeze.

i have been very happy overall with the pro-tac.. did my first removal and it was really easy, i used the orange stuff but it did get slimy but it all came out easily so i has very happy.

I have been curious about the liquid gold though.. you can use it to pre-tip the hair is that correct.. ? I have prolems with my pretipped hair the pretipp glue is basically all gone and alot of the hair was falling out so that why i took the protac out..

nicci, so you are using pro-tac tape with pretipped hair that you have pretipped yourself with LG correct?

Maybe next time try weft hair with the protac. Or if you have a supply of bulk hair that you need to use up, Try either fusing several of your tips together side by side before installing onto the tape ( as Amm did in her pictures that she posted). Or try a different tipping glue like keratin.

I'll try to locate the post (with pictures) where amm fused the tips together

Hey everyone!

Thank you all SO Much for all of your helpful advice!

I am defintly going to try acetone when it comes to removal as it sounds like the best method!

I currently still have my shrink*** in too and as soon as I get all my new supplies I am going to take them out and do an install with LG and Protac, I am so anxious to try it because I instantly loved the LG weft install immediately!  I am so glad to finally have found something I think will really work!  lol!

Thanks again all of you, I will keep you posted and hopefully get up some pics when I get it all started!

thanks for the reply sherrie,  I actually purchased my hair already pretipped then I  heated them up and combined the pretipps so i had bigger bunches then  i fused a few more clumps together and stuck them to the wefts , i think all the melting and melting caused me to loos alot  of the glue/ keratin stuff so  my pretipps were sheeding really bad, that why I took them out and  need to reinforce those suckers.. but i also a  small amount of weft hair that I also stuck to the protac and I didn't have any shedding from that , but the protac came off the pretipps much easier.. anyways.. that why I was wondering about  buying some liquid gold to use that to refuse m y pretips..

Pink Paradise.. I would like to hear a review on the protac compared to the liquid gold when you put in your ProTac.. be fun to hear the comparison.. pros and cons.., glad you found something you like and works.. its so much fun isn't it!
