My first ever super short haircut at 17 was an utter disaster. I was ready for a big change, been wanting to cut it ultra short after having varying lengths of long hair since I was a kid. I asked for a crop, showed the stylist a picture (of Winona Ryder I think) and everything. She cut the top short with shears; it looked alright. Then, she took out clippers and told me she was going to clean up the back a bit. She proceeded to shave the back of my head really close. I was mortified. It looked so horrible to me and yet I couldn't hide it under hats at school. It wasn't feminine at all, and I felt like I was getting ready for boot camp or something. Fortunately, it looked much better in a month when it had time to grow out. I get cropped every few years or so now, but I will not ever, ever, ever let a stylist near me with clippers again. If they want to "clean up" my nape, I make them use scissors and their razor tool. |

Gizmo, your stylist cut a pixie style with clippers?! Is she crazy? Good for you that you managed to grow it out without too much stress... Good question. My life can be divided into three hair periods: small child - hair cut by mom, mainly into a Prince Valliant style cut sometime before I was 4-20 - short regular barbered cut 20-present - cutting my hair alone What all this time was my WORST haircut is hard to define. As I cut my hair myself, it is not surprising that some of my earlier attempts were not so good. By that standard, my worst time would be once after I had been cutting my hair for some time, when I cut one side too much and it ended up choppy in front. Though asymetric, I did not get it cleaned up by a barber, I just let it grow out, and in about a month IIRC, it wasn't looking too bad. If we talk about just how the haircut in general looked however, we could say that the worst haircut I have had is a mushroom cut, a one-time deviation from my normal short regular when I was like 11. The haircut itself was not bad, it's just that it was a one-time experiment. On the other hand, having a short haircut looked terrible on me eventually, as my face got not to be the right shape for it. The clean cut look is just not me. |

The most recent one. As you may be aware, one popular fashion for men
at the moment is the, not exactly mohawk but "apex" style where the
hair is graded towards the center on top, a bit messily. This looks
great on 20-30 year olds, not receding 49 year olds. But the young
"stylist" didn't seem to take this into account, and the result is
awful. Why don't people think?

Ooh! Ooh! I have one! When I was in high school I had long one length hair...it was a little tapered in the front, but the back was simply cut straight across. I was getting ready to go out on a FRIDAY night and made the monuMENTal mistake of asking my mother to cut straight across the back. She was hesitant but I assured her it would be ok and even grabbed a ruler so she could cut straight across the ruler! Finally she agreed. But half way through chickened out!!!!! I kid you not! A teenaged girl, on a Friday night with two distinctly different lengths of hair!!!!!!! And it was too late to get into a salon to have it fixed!!!!!!! ------------- gwatt |

Mine was recent too. After years of wearing it short, I decided to grow it long. I finally got it to the length I wanted and had nice layers put it. When I went back to the same stylist for a touch up on the layers, I got butchered bad. I ended up with very thin straggly layers instead of wavy thick ones that I had. I had to cut off those long layers back in January up to a short bob. Now my hair has grown back to just touching my shoulders and I will NEVER cut it again. ------------- Kelly |

Kelly! I feel your pain! I, too, had beautiful layers cut into my my long hair and I LOVED it! I went back to the same stylist for a "trim" and she BUTCHERED it! There wasn't a thing I could do and my hair doesn't grow very fast! ------------- gwatt |

I brought in a picture of a medium length bob to the sylist. She finished and turned me around to see the results...it was a very short pixie-type style which looked nothing like I wanted. I was too shocked to say anything and I left but never went back. Today I'd be more assertive and refuse to pay! |

Lol, almost exactly the same thing happened to me! I went in, asking for a "tidy up" and now I feel like a complete and utter idiot! I'm gonna grow my hair forever now! |

Worst haircut? ..Okay, so I thought I've had a couple in my past. The one I got yesterday, doesn't even compair. I showed the lady a picture (which was a tie between medium and short, but shorter than shoulder length) ..so Iasked for it to at least be to my shoulders. I wanted a longer version of the style and cut. So when she got to cutting, I was watching in the mirror and I about died. I wouldn't even let her add in the layers because it was already so short. I ended up with my hair about 1-1½ above my shoulders. I can't even hardly put it in a pony tail without some of it falling out. It's horrible. I look so bad. ------------- |

Oh it was simply rotten. My hair was somewhat fried at the time so I thought I might cut close to the roots in order to avoid further damage.... I noted a cute pixie style in a hair-art book at the salon, so I suggested we work off of that. Yeahh. Well, I'm sure they're trained to comply with customers requests, but I feel the lady should've chimed in on this one. I have extremely thick hair, a generous face and high cheekbones, so the style ended up rather moppy and triangular. I was just devastated. Then of course I thought I could remedy it by doing DYI extensions. They held for about 3 weeks... quite funny actually - each day after week 2 one piece would drop out .. One day my roomie flipped 'cause she saw "A snake!!" in the bathroom... lol.. neither of us would even do as much as turn on the light to find out what it was for about 15 min till we realised it was a chunk of hair. :D Sooo anyway.. I've decided to grow my hair at least waist length and nothing above the shoulders. Never again to trust hairstylists.

I'd have to say my worst "haircut" was an utter lack thereof, since I wasn't allowed to cut it through my entire childhood. Of course, I've had my share of haircut mistakes, just like anyone else, but after not being allowed to change it at all throughout childhood, no "bad" haircut could be serious enough to make me swear off cutting forever! ------------- More awesome than a manatee! |
