I did an at-home highlighting kit over the weekend.  I've done them three or four times in the past, but this time, too much hair pulled through on the sides of my face and it's solid platinum blonde there.  It turned out great on the top and back, though.  Anyway, I can't afford to go to the salon to fix it (otherwise I would have gone there in the first place), so I went to Sally Beauty Supply.  The girl there recommended a toner and developer.  However, I'm not sure how to use them.  Do you mix equal parts toner and developer?   Do I apply it to wet hair or dry?  Do I shampoo first?  Do I apply it allover, or just to the sides where I want the highlights toned down?  How long should I leave it on to start with?   Do I shampoo and condition afterwards, or just rinse?

Any advice would help.  Thanks!

Hi , This is a difficult one, without seeing your existing colour, however , You should mix the toner and developer equal parts, apply to dry hair, I would apply it to the whole head , it will even out all you colour to the same depth, it should be a very visual to see the colour tone whilst developing , I would say no longer than 20 mins , but thats without seeing your hair, but as i said it is very visual. finally you should shampoo and condition your hair after , preferably with a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair.

Hope this helps a little , karen

It says on the Toner bottle to apply to shampooed, towel-dried hair.
