Even though I am a hairdresser on the occasion I have wanted a treat I had my hair ravaged by a reputable colour correcting salon (I had a colour go khaki on my blonde years ago) they applied effasor stripper with 30 vol to my already fine hair & scalp left me at the basin until I was crying & calling for someone to rinse as my scalp was burning anyway ended up 2nd degree burns to scalp & all my hair fell out like jelly-I had Dr's & specialists to back me & still the law suit failed as even as the salon told me it was an 'accident' that a junior mixed the effasor with 30 vol instead of mild bleach bath they denied it .

My hair grew back but I was devastated & cried so much I even covered all mirrors it was a nightmare.

I had great lengths put in when my hair was 5 inches long but the stress on my scalp would not take it so all the money I saved was wasted as I had to get them all out also the removal damaged my hair the acetone & pulling to get them out (I had 3/4 head full) broke my hair yet again.

After many years I went to a salon again & they again got the colour wrong so I do my hair at home now.

Lesson leart even the most publisized salons can ruin your whole look & kill any self cofidence you have in a matter of minutes & if you feel they are not listening no matter how much hair history you provide get up & leave asap!.

I'm sorry to hear of the terrible time you had.

You mentioned that you had some damaging things done and tried to put in extensions.

I would suggest to others thinking of doing the same thing to invest a good DAY and some money into finding a good wig if they're in that same predicament. You need at least 2 hours to a day because you will want to try on a few before buying one.

A wig has to be tried on to see if it looks good and natural. NEVER buy a wig from a catalog, because the color and/or texture may not look natural.

Also, the BIG BONUS and the entire point in wearing a wig is that you don't have to do any more damage to your own hair/scalp. You can even change colors/styles more often without damaging your hair/scalp.

I have only one wig, but no one knows its a wig unless I tell them. It was especially GREAT when I was pregnant and had no time to do anything to my hair due to my excessive sleeping.

Renata22 thank you :)  ended up after the extensions were out I wore a bandana & felt like a !!, eventually I bought a really great wig it had a light mesh top so it didn't look fake ,so that is great advice  now my hair is blonde I should invest in another nice wig & let my hair grow out a bit.

Yes I agree never get a catalogue wig some are of a quite nasty fibre you really have to try one on.

If I may ask did you buy human hair or fibre?

Hey, That sounds horrific what you went through Miffny!

I'm glad to read that you are using a natural wig to help yourself.

I remember buying a cheap wig, because I couldn't afford a nice wig.

I know the heart ache you've felt.

However, I was depressed before in 2003, and I ended up cutting all my hair off. I was feeling terrible, the next day, so I wore a bandana type wrap. Then within 4 days(I think). I got a blonde wig. I thought it looked "real enough". But later I realized it looked too fake. I am embarrased to say, I actually wore the wig in public, once! Then into the trash. After that I walked around barely any hair, It took guts, and heart ache too. But within 5 months it was growing nicly into a cute pixie look.

Ok, I'm sooo over the past,...

 Thanks,...

Katay is was the single most ghastly thing that ever happened to my poor hair thank goodness it's grown to my shoulders now-still frail though

Depression makes us all do crazy things with our hair  I know the feeling the split second you've cut if off comes"why did I do it?" than I also wore a wig in public only once & kept on with bandanas.

Sheez you have guts & I am sorry for your heartache, but I bet it looks lovely now .

LOL I am over it too as I said" Lesson leart even the most publisized salons can ruin your whole look & kill any self cofidence you have in a matter of minutes & if you feel they are not listening no matter how much hair history you provide get up & leave asap!."

Take Care.

I'm African American, so I bought synthetic fiber because it had more texture AND because the curls/style pops back in when you wash it. I only bought mine because I was too tired to do anything to my hair during my first 3 months of pregnancy. I think I only washed it once every other week...I was SO TIRED! I don't wear it much anymore.
