          | If you flat iron 2-3 day old hair, what's the disadvantage(besides the fact that it will not be absolutely CLEAN? |

          | well, you are technically frying all of the oil, gel, grease and other products you may have used since your wash right on back into your hair. That can be damaging.  If you don't use many products, you should be okay-- but by day 3 you've pretty much accumulated quite a bit of product on your hair. I wouldn't do it.

          | Co-sign Sistaslick. Also when you flatiron unclean hair it's often dull and my smell depending on how high the heat is. HTH

          | Thanks Ladies.  Well, the products I use are also used for thermal styling and what not!...I don't know if that makes it okay.  So I tried it, and it did come out rather beautiful;hopefully this doesn't hurt me in the long run. |

 I have always done this
,, i dont put a load of product in and I find that after the 3rd or 4th day after
washing and then touching up with the iron it looks
even better sometimes! lol but if i did happen to load
it with product then it'll look like crap

          | To me, that is akin to ironing clothes that you have worn.  Not sanitary at all and quite possibly damaging to the hair. |

          | I don't worry about it too much since hair that's longer than about two inches is dead anyway. I've also found that for me, flat-ironing the same day as a wash is counterproductive, especially if I airdried -- the iron is already stripping oil out of my hair, so unless I use a lot of oil ( and I mean a LOT; small sections, thoroughly oiled), my hair comes out looking dull and not very straight.   My hair seems to like flat ironing better when there's more oil around...
