I'll be using Color Gems to try to color my gray roots. I have no idea how the color will take, so is it OK to mix a small amount to test a small section of hair? The formula recommended by Color Gems is 1 part color to 1 part developer, so can I mix up a tablespoon of each for my test?

Yep - it's fine to mix tiny portions of color and developer to conduct a strand test.  Good luck.  Maria
