Hi Guys

I had my waist length brunette hair cropped into a pixie cut eighteen months ago to support my best friend Rachel who had started chemotherapy. I even donated my ponytail to an organisation that specialises in making wigs for those undergoing treatment for leukaemia.

Now that Rachel is in remission I have decided to regrow my crowning glory to its former beauty but some encouragement and support will be required to meet my goals.

I miss the femininity the flow of girly long hair provides and hope to hear from many of you along my journey.

Welcome, Cassie! Hope your hairgrows back out fast for you. Are you planning on letting it go back to waist length, shorter, or longer?

Well, I will be very supportive as you start your "journey!" Happy growin"!

Hi Cassie and welcome to the board! That was very supportive of you to make that gesture for your friend. I hope she is on the road to recovery. You will find lots of great ideas and support on this board. What color and type of hair do you have?

Hi, I honestly think there are much better ways of being supportive. Instead of choping your hair, you should have given your friend a wig. BTW of your donation, check the 'Locks of Love - Evil Hair Industry' post on the Hair Politics board...

FAST HAPPY hair growing to you and your friend

Wow! That was a great gesture! I could never do something like that.

Good luck to both of you in growing your hair back.

I forgot to say that I think that was a very unselfish act on your part, Cassie! I agree with HFO, though...I don't think I could ever do that!

Many thanks for your support guys. It is always pleasing to have a network of friends offering their best wishes. I am blessed to have a wonderful hairdresser who is familiar with my thick brunette locks having tended to my hair for the past decade. With her being a real girly girl like myself it helps enormously in understanding and interpreting what style I want.

The aim is to again grow my crowning glory to waist length but eventually in a blunt cut. Luckily I have hair that sits quite nicely with more length. My hair was worn in a blunt mid length bob in high school but with short layers obviously still evident a mid length layed shag is my first goal.

Hi Cassie....and welcome.  That was such an awesome decision you made and as Rini said, you are a wonderful friend to be that supportive.  You will find the people on this board to also be very supportive to you in your journey back to long hair. When you are down they are here for you. Again, welcome and good luck.

I discussed about this topic with some friends o'mine - male and femnale - all of them, metalheads like myself. They gave me thesame answer: "In case I got cancer, don't cut Ur hair - buy me a wig. After that, if U wanna be REALLY SUPORTIVE, talk about something else!" All of them said that 'seeing other bald heads around would be most depressive' . I sure hope nobody I care for (including me ) gets cancer!!!

Stay in good health and blessed be,

Wow Cassie, what a great friend you must be!

I agree with some points from both sides mentioned above...

You're a great friend for the gesture, and Im sure your friend was so happy to have you there beside her.

But on the other hand, I dont think I would have been able to do what you did.  I would have searched for some other way to show how much I cared.

I hope your friend continues to get well.
