I use to highlight my natural hair colour (very dark blonde), but I decided to make the base colour slightly lighter before I add the highlights again.

Unfortunately this colour has come out a sort of a coppery / blonde colour (used Garnier Nutrisse golden blonde), not quite what I intended, but I'm just wondering if the highlights will still come out the usual blonde shade, not a strange orange if I carry on without removing the colour first.

Thanks.
Toby.

Hi Toby:  I don't think you'll have a problem with the highlights.  I think that most highlight kits use bleach which will remove the applied haircolor to the strands you select for highlighting.  I would advise you to do a test strand and time it (you'll probably want to wipe off the highlighting cream a couple of times during the intial test strand timing to check the progress.).  By doing the test strand you'll know what to expect with the other highlights.  I believe that you'll get a orangey look only if you don't leave the bleach on long enough to lift the color to your desired state.  Maria
